I suspect it just means CN execs are finally openly admitting they haven't got a clue and are just flailing about randomly in their programming selections.

The funniest thing that I make of this, since when is SBTB an "adult" series to air on AS?Refresh my memory, but isn't this show a "teenybopper" kids show?
Boy, someone must be sniffing paint thinner over at CN/AS....:D

But that's where the similarity ends, 'cause I LIKE Pepe Le Pew.

From what Adult Swim stated, SBTB, is only going to air for two weeks only, begining next Monday at 12am(est).This is not a joke, as the channel is very serious about this show on their roster.

I think this is Adult Swim's way of mocking the programmers at Cartoon Network for adding live-action programming to the schedule.
And annoying Adult Swim viewers in the process. I seriously can't wait for the day when Adult Swim's ratings collapse. And with Futurama going to Comedy Central next year and Family Guy past its prime, it may come sooner than anyone expects. Shows that appeal to no one including pot junkies staying on the schedule and getting renewed because the popular shows can carry the block. Stunts and promotions that don't make sense or intentionally insult the viewers. Enough is enough; put some adults who can act like adults in charge of Adult Swim.

This is in line with showing The Gary Coleman Show at the end of Adult Swim's nightly programming, though since it's in an earlier spot, I would expect the commercial break bumpers to be both snarky about SBTB itself and in replies to the Angry Typing Guy e-mails they're already no doubt getting about airing the show in the first place.

I think AS has lost there minds here.
This is some Crap, i member when the SBTB was new in the 80's and I didn't much care for it then. It was okay
but not nothing to write home about. I think they are showing it cause they dont have a Rat's *** on what to show on the late nite anymore. And with CN's ratings tanking badly were there changing there line ups on a by weeekly basis, this is the End of CN.
AS is about to sink like the Titantic or in modern terms its goign to bomb like Dogal.
I was reading recently that the Simspons movie means the end of the series on Fox in 2007, and its supose to move to FX when the show wraps up on network tv.
I think COmedy is looking to pick up ratings since South Park is on its way out, now that they killed off Chef, Look for the end of alot of shows.
But back to CN, I think if they could secure the rights to some good shows for the late nite crowd, like "Star Blazers", even some of the Quarky music based shows (Jackson 5, Beatles, Brady kids, Archies, etc), Permently retire ATHF (which is playing SOS and was not really iMO not the best of the AS shows ), and most of there other shows on Hiatus, its a good though that we may (shiiver) see more crappy animation on AS (80's HB shows that should have never been made, crappy Cartoon cartoon repeats, and more TEen shows).

Think Mystery Science Theater 3000 as far as SBTB and the intershow bumpers go -- I'd be shocked if the episodes aren't held up to ridicule before and after commercials, since I'd be shocked if the folks at Adult Swim didn't realize they were dumping a steaming pile of poop in the middle of their schedule. Then it's just a matter of whether or not you think that the show is "so bad it's good" in the mold of The Gary Coleman Show (or "Plan 9 from Outer Space") and they can get enough unintentional laughs out of airing it in their prime time section (I don't, but I'm not programming the channel).

They can mock the show all they want, but that doesn't mean viewers will stick around for it. Again, the people running Adult Swim don't seem to understand the difference between funny to them and funny to their audience.
I remember back in the early to mid-1990's when Cartoon Network had to rely on Hanna-Barbera and Ruby-Spears series to fill its schedule. The people responsible for this were apparently well aware that these shows were awful based on the promotions and bumpers mocking them that ran before and after commercials. And while they were hilarious, they didn't make the shows any less painful to sit through.

BTW just an fyi, XETV was the only independant station, after they lost there ABC affliation, so they were a Test market for alot of strange and unique cartoons, Star Blazers was one of them, another is a show that had been produced by Jay word and had a strange uncle that would do a strange dance when he get an idea, but not sure what the title is. They also played alot of the sid and crofort shows of the early 70's, woody, LT/MM, gumby, ando alot of other shows.

I enjoyed watching My Mother the Car when it was shown on Trio....that channel ruled before it had the plug pulled. There needs to be a good night owl channel with goofy live action shows. Although normally that's when I pick through the DVD collection. has anyone seen Batman (the Adam West series) on TV lately? What about the Monkees?
I hope Adult Swim can show Lanelot Link Secret Chimp to promote its DVD release this June.

Also interesting for having it's call letters out of Tijuana to boot (not that it matters, but it amuses me how such a station would have Mexican ties like that).

Still you were luckier than me, who had no independent station in my hometown to watch until the mid '80s, and by then, it would've been too late in trying to hunt down Star Blazers out of fan-circulated copies (best early anime I had seen without knowing it was anime was "Voltron", which will be getting some DVD releases very soon), never saw Robotech either but used to wear a pair of Robotech PJ's to bed.

There actually was a time when Cartoon Network housed Pink Panther and Woody Woodpecker. 1997, the same year they began airing pre-1944 and post-1948 Looney Tunes, that to me was when the network reached its peak.

I assume the version of Woody Woodpecker they aired then was probably from "Program Exchange" and was the '87 syndie version that wasn't how I remember watching them in the early '80s from a station in Detroit or someplace.

Nobody's going to buy out Turner, it's owned lock, stock and barrel by Warner's (Time-Warner) and they paid HUGE bucks ten years back to get it (and then had to move heaven and earth to get rid of Ted himself;)).
And the Jay Ward cartoon you're thinking of which "had a strange uncle that would do a strange dance when he get an idea" was the classic "Hoppity Hooper" which came out between Bullwinkle and George Of The Jungle.

Studio Toledo, you are correct on the call letters on
XETV, they are the only station out of phyical USA but on of there towers of transmition is in San Yiestro(sp), which makes em a US TV station, the only one in the US with an X in there call letters, that runs English line up (were as most of the stations that use X are Spanish line ups).
I still remember seeing the Quarky animation when the station would sign on in at 5:30 am or for a while 6 am.
On the west cost most line ups start after 8 pm, so most stations that took a break (before Informercials), would sign off about 2 am or 3 am, and resign on about 5 to 6 am. The line i still member to this day is "XETV, SEE THE DIFFERANCE, XETV, 6." this was used from 77 to the time it became a Fox Station in 93 (full fox affliation, before most fox stations would NOt adversie they had fox that how KXRM was untill 1991). Xetv's sign on animation was a unique Psycedilic animation, with the stations channel number. (btw if anyone was recording off tv diring that time (78 to 88), and has tapes with the channel's tag lines, sign on or such please contact me, i love to share some on the net, as this was very unique and i did not have a VCR at this time, untill 86 and before i left San diego could not get the older vcrs to record off the air correctly. and from 82 to 5 did not own a vcr, when i was in TX.
But it was a great station to see alot of those Unique shows casue it was the test market.
Sogturtle, the talk of Turner being bought out was met to be a joke, cause they don't seem to knwo how to run it at all, with good programing.
"Hoppity Hooper" was the show I was thinking of, i only saw it on XETV one year but it came on there about the time Star Blazers aired in the mornings, it start about 7 and Star Blazers air at 8 am. I remeber that show alot but never could remember the title.
Maybe some day it reair on tv, i member George of the Jungle, Tom Slick, R & B also airing on the San Diego Staion, as well as other shows inearly morning such as tom and jerry, PTL, Treasure Hunt, alot of the Flintstone's series over the years, Scooby, Skate Birds, and other shows.
We will never see a line up liek that again.
OH also they aired one of the first 3d movies aired on tv, Gorilia at large, cause that was a HUGE promotion for the Station that they were going to run it.

I think everyone here is ignoring the possibility that maybe Adult Swim is airing SBtB as some big prank on the viewers (the fact that SBtB will only be on AS for 2 weeks sorta backs this up) and/or as a satire of Cartoon Network airing live-action movies. If this all just some big joke (like showing "Boo-Boo Runs Wild" every Sunday a few months ago), than good job at annoying your audiences, Adult Swim. If this is some serious sigh of Adult Swim's future, however, I'm scared.

It isn't. And if this is indeed their intent, the AS programmers ought to consider that 1.) They're about 15 years late with their cutting-edge irony, and 2.) Given what they're already programming, they don't have much room to make fun in the first place.
But I'm willing to bet it's just another example of CN's willingness to throw just anything on the schedule and see what sticks.

Reading about it over at Cartoon Brew, I was kinda hoping Amid was being sarcastic about what his thoughts where on it, but it seems funny if such a trend could be done where channels start breaking out of their genre-subject heading and into something compeltely different if that doesn't become a trend..

What was the last big hit Cartoon Network had? Totally Spies in 2003? No wonder it's in trouble. You can't go this long without something new taking its place.
It hasn't been that long for Adult Swim, but with increasing Andy Kaufman-esque it's funny for us and that's all that matters events, it shouldn't be long before it alienates its base.
And CNNfn didn't completely disappear. The Web site (http://www.cnnmoney.com/) still exists and the few cable operators that didn't drop it when the channel shut down got CNN International in its place.
Cartoon Network has signifcantly higher distribution and (for the time being) a larger fanbase than CNNfn ever had. It'll take more than two years for it to go away.

If they have an iota of common sense left in their brains, it is. The thought they actually would do that on purpose in an attempt to educate their youthful viewers about the environment means it's time to go on a long cruise with Mr. Turner where they hide all the sharp objects.

Check out those plot descriptions! Sounds like a great way to spend a weekend, huh? Here's an example:
Wheeler's kid cousin, Joey, is devastated when his new puppy, Skippy, dies from birth defects.
Now THERE'S a recipe for a half-hour of cartoon fun!!

It's even funnier when you consider the title of the episode is "101 Mutations".
