There's REALLY not much difference between this, and the original VHS cover:

I love Thumpers pose. I do have a pet peeve about covers where the characters are all different sizes though.

There's REALLY not much difference between this, and the original VHS coverAre you sure, AngryBeavers? Look again, and you'll see that while the original VHS cover absolutely nails the proper construction of Bambi's head, the DVD design gives him Simba's cheeks. The key to drawing Bambi is using an actual deer's build as the guide, which it looks like today's WDHV didn't bother to do.
There's REALLY not much difference between this, and the original VHS cover:
Except for similar poses for Thumper and Flower, it's a completely different image for the DVD cover (thanks for pointing Bambi's face construction out, David!)...

(thanks for pointing Bambi's face construction out, David!)...
Yeah, now there's a whole new reason for me to complain about the cover (and I like complaining!)

I prefer the 1996 film soundtrack re-release cd cover to both the old vhs and new dvd cover. It is the same character drawings as the current DVD cover, but zoomed back; so the airbrushed effect isn't as obvious and you get a beautiful view of forest behind the characters. It is kind of strange seeing an owl standing on the ground though ... By the way this is NOT the cover you see on the bambi soundtrack cd listed at amazon.
This CD soundtrack also has some outstanding packaging art, I love the back-cover and the back of the insert book in particular. Hopefully Disney will put together some packaging at least as good as this for the dvd - with all the time spent on audio and video restoration I hope they don't skimp on the presentation.
Speaking of the soundtrack I wonder if another soundtrack CD will be re-released with the audio re-mastering for the DVD.

Back to the cover... I think it's pretty lame. I hate to complain, and I'm excited that Bambi is finally coming to DVD, but it looks cheap, using stock poses that are airbrushed all to hell. Hopefully they will revise the cover in the months leading up to the release. I mean, it's only September, and Warner Bros. revised the design of the LTGC DVD several times before they arrived at what was eventually released.

:o Is Disney slow at releasing their older movies out onto DVD or something?
I would've guessed that it has long been out on DVD...guess I was wrong.
BTW, is Alladin just now getting released onto DVD or is it a special edition kind? :)

BTW, is Alladin just now getting released onto DVD or is it a special edition kind? :)Uh... both. Aladdin hasn't been released onto DVD until now. Disney is releasing it as one of their 2-disc "Platinum Editions" -- I think it's supposed to go out-of-print in two years so they can re-release it again when they debut their new HD-DVD format in 2007.
