Hmmm... A hand drawn John K Mighty Mouse movie... that'd be sick. Jerry should run these companies. It's actually a TERRYTOONS, movie, according to wikipedia.

And I'd guess that's supposed to be Mitzi from the Dell comics on MM's left.
True, I'm not screaming anti-Viacom invective (yet), but it has crossed my mind.
On the other hand, if (and that's a huge "if," to be sure) this project brought with it the long hoped-for resurfacing of original color Terrytoons in user-friendly DVD sets, couldn't we somehow tolerate its existence?
Put another way, keep an eye on your blood pressure there, Nelson*! We want you to stay healthy and alert while you work on all of your own worthy animation archiving projects too. :)

Course, Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source for data, despite what some people claim.

Would it be blasphemous to disagree with Jerry here? Because I just don't know about that John K sometimes and I'd hate for him to be the beholder of Mighty Mouse's destiny.

Eh... the designs aren't THAT bad... they're better than the CGI Popeye ones, at least. (Which I don't think was THAT bad of a film, either.)

This all makes me WONDER what a CGI Heckle and Jeckle would look like...:p
(Now that I've said that I wonder how long before we can see that become a reality:D

Considering that Viacom has a major part in this movie, don't get your hopes up on seeing the original MM cartoons on dvd.Someone told me that Viacom plans on promoting the feature with a new CGI Mighty Mouse series and not the Paul Terrytoon verison, on either tv or dvd.

I - I'm speechless. Seriously, I have absolutely no idea how to comment on this screencap. Words cannot describe the confusion that I am experiencing right now.
This is a graphical representation of how I feel right now: :befuddled

I know we're not voting . . .
. . . but I don't see anything wrong with those character designs. They look fairly faithful to the old cartoons.
They could have been much worse.
And isn't the proof of the pudding in the animation/storytelling of a project? Just as with the Loonatics debacle, I'm amazed at the harsh prejudgement that abounds here.

Please don't be so negative, Nelson, sometimes all we is hope for good things. And there is some chance of Mighty Mouse cartoons on DVD, from http://groups.google.com/group/alt.animation.spumco/msg/66e06f56d0ebbef9?&hl=en
And what about the 1986 CBS-TV SatAM series where he cut his animation teeth working under the auspices of Ralph "Ralph-Man" Bakshi? According to John K., not much: "I've been pitching 'The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse' to Paramount for about eight years - ever since they got the CBS library or whatever - property keeps going from one company to another! But they've had them sitting in their vaults now for the longest time..."
And yet, he still has hopes of borrowing a page out of the Tarantino and Scorcese playbooks: "I keep going back, saying 'Why don't you put my name on this stuff, and we'll sell 'em? Stimpy's hot, you could be selling THIS stuff if you say ['The New Mighty Mouse'] is 'The Show That Started Ren & Stimpy!' And we were just about to do it; the guys doing the R&S DVDs, they were all excited about it. And then they found out that... I don't know what, last time I heard, Viacom was splitting up its assets again or something... And so we don't know where the rights are gonna end up yet!"
Kricfalusi's vibrant energy level drops precipitously as he continues discussing an evidently sore subject: "It's all too complicated. Just trying to do things to please the audience... it gets too complicated! Nothing is logical in Hollywood. Who knows, I'm still gonna push for it - I even wanna [re]release the ORIGINAL Terrytoons [Mighty Mouse, Heckle & Jeckle, etc.] from the 40s & 50s! Those are really good cartoons, and kids love them."
Also I should point that I heard from the guy who owns the website mentioned at Cartoon Brew (Neil Beck, no relation to Jerry) said on the Ralph Bakshi forum that a book about the history of Mighty Mouse is going to come out to tie-in with the movie, so somebody out there was respect for the Terrytoons history.
Finally, my own views on the designs:
Mighty Mouse: Like the earlier design, I feel that the design would be pretty much perfect if the face looked more like the "real" Mighty Mouse's face.
Pearl Pureheart: I dunno why they changed her from a blonde to a brunette, though the website came up with an interesting theory (that Pearl wanted to change her hair after 60+ years), and besides, I like brunettes much better than blondes, anyway, so I guess it's okay.
Oil Can Harry: IMHO, this is easily the worst of the designs. It looks next to nothing like the "real" Oil Can Harry. I hope they change it.
Just as with the Loonatics debacle, I'm amazed at the harsh prejudgement that abounds here.
Well I think it's safe to say that we were all right with our prejudgements over Loonatics being a flaming piece of @$!# ....
And if people find the designs ugly, only a really, REALLY good amount of storytelling can save it. Chances are if people don't like the designs they won't have much to say over the animation either.

On a similar note, I wonder if the reason we haven't seen any sort of "complete" Underdog DVD release in the USA yet is because Classic Media is waiting to tie-in with Disney's upcoming live-action version...

Maybe, but Garfield hasn't really been out of the public eye as much as Mighty Mouse...Garfield has been in the newspaper daily even after his Saturday Morning series was cancelled, and Garfield also has the advantage of being 80's nostalgia, since a lot of cartoons and TV shows from the 1980's seem to be coming to DVD.

You are assuming that the people controlling the industry and the media that reports on animation has common sense.

I think it would be too silly to make such a movie with a character that a very few people and animation-nuts like us remember about!
So I'm pretty sure that there will be a dvd release of the Mighty Mouse theatrical classics or, at least, of the Ralph Bakshi-John K animated series.

Would be nice if the Bakshi series ever gets a release at all. That show was GOLD for it's time.
I was rather amused to see the unseen CBS cartoon, "The Garbage Pail Kids" just got released on DVD, since that was a show I only knew by name, but never seen. After watching one episode a year or so ago, it's not really worth it given it's cheap animation standards of the day.

Sorry. I was referring to how so many cartoons have been adapted to 3-D/live-action films, but sense that's not the case here, never mind.

Well, if this version of Mighty Mouse is released, the original cartoons will probably be released to cash in. I never cared for MM but I sure there are quite a few here who would love to have a proper release of those.
