What is the weirdest cartoon anyone has ever seen.
For me it has to be "The Bear That Wasn't" by Chuck Jones for MGM

Note: "Weird" does not at all imply "Bad."

1. Porky In Wackyland/Dough For The Do-Do (especially the latter).

2. The Wearing Of The Grin

3. Coal Black And De Sebben Dwarves

4. Elmer's Pet Rabbit

5. Much Ado About Nutting

6. The Old Gray Hare

Weirdest Cartoon, huh? For me, it'd have to be McKimson's The Mouse That Jack Built. Seeing all those Stars back then speaking as Cartoon Mice was kinda...wow! Put the "Looney" in Looney Tunes for me! :sylvester

Well, "Porky in Wackyland" is far out, but I just ran across one last night that's the strangest thing I've seen in ages. I'd never before heard the featured song or heard of the group who did it. It's "The Ghost of Stephen Foster" by The Squirrel Nut Zippers, available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB9R0P1ONkU&search=squirrel%20nut%20zippers

Weird music in a weird cartoon that nicely captures the flavor of the old 30's b&w animation.

That "MONKEY DOODLE" cartoon is about the most jaw dropping thing I've ever seen. (Ref. Cultoons DVD)

How about "Duck Amuck" starring Daffy Duck? :daffy:

Reminds me of one of Fleischer's Talkcartoons.

It's also the first new cartoon starring Buddy and Cookie in quite awhile. (Somebody had to say it.)

I don't know how you get any weirder than Now Hear This, unless you include cartoons influenced by use of illegal drugs.

I'd heard of the Squirrel Nut Zippers but was not familiar with their music. The images in the cartoon are straight out of early '30's Fleischer, from the live shot of a band in the beginning (even the titles look like Fleischer titles) to the "Bimbo's Initiation"-style entrance to the house, to the images of skeletons, and even the appearance of a mouse (which Fleischer did to poke fun at Disney).

The weirdest animation that I can think of now is the "Oxyride Me" commercial for Panasonic batteries. In it, a dog that is touched by a battery becomes the size of a Hummer and eats somebody, then spits him out and shrinks back to normal size. It looks as if the animation was done with paper cutouts.

With regard to classic cartoons, any number from Clampett: "Porky in Wackyland," "Tin Pan Alley Cats," the dream sequence in "The Big Snooze."

Also early Fleischer, which is delightfully weird: "Mysterious Mose," "Bimbo's Initiation," "Swing You Sinners," "Snow-White," "Minnie the Moocher," "The Old Man of the Mountain."

I've seen better examples!

Yellow Subamarine, followed by Now Hear This.

Has anyone ever seen the Spongebob episode SB-129? I think there's a reference to Now Hear This in it but I'm not sure.

Most of the black-and-white Van Beurens are pretty damn strange, but one in particular that always leaves me with my mouth slightly open is Wot a Night, the first of the Tom and Jerrys -- pure, unadulterated '30s weirdness from beginning to end. Unbelievably bad animation, unsynchronized mumblings that would have made the Fleischers proud, and a truly disturbing ending that I wouldn't give away for anyone who hasn't seen it.

More disturbing than "SHHHH"? I actually posted a "testominy" of sorts about that one when I saw it. Messed up stuff...

One I didn't mention:

"The Dog Snatcher" (Scrappy)

"Betty Boop M.D."

I agree. Also add in there, "Any Rags".

Plus, "Quasi At The Quackedero" by Sally "What the hell is this???" Kruikshank.

I'd never before heard the featured song or heard of the group who did it. It's "The Ghost of Stephen Foster" by The Squirrel Nut Zippers.

They also do the theme song to the A&E show, "Family Plots" ("In the afterlife... you will headed for some serious strife")

On the line with animated music videos, nobody has mentioned "Istanbul Not Constantinople" (by They Might Be Giants)....

or better yet, how about John K's rendition of Bjork's video, "I Miss You". That one is like The New Adventures Of Mighty Mouse through funhouse mirrors with a shot of LSD (right up to and including the last scene where Bjork tears a chicken in half).... the bizarre B&W walk cycle of all those freaky 30's-looking characters always gets me... and if you want to see what Jimmy The Hapless Kid looks like animated, that video will answer you.

I thought "The Magic Mummy"(Tom and Jerry) was weird, whats with the homosexual police officers? I also liked the Betty Boop rip off.

From what I've seen so far:

Balloonland
The Cuckoo Murder Case
Stratos Fear
Wot a Night
Bimbo's Initiation
Minnie the Moocher
Snow White
Porky in Wackyland

Quasi At The Quackedero is very disturbing to me.

Yes, "Balloonland" (aka "Pincushion Man," Iwerks) is weird. Another weird one is "The Fresh Vegetable Mystery" (Fleischer).

Another weird one is "The Fresh Vegetable Mystery" (Fleischer).I really need to see more Fleischer cartoons.
I always thought "The Dover Boys....." was weird. The humor to Dover Boys is... how would you say it? Very dry. And the overall design and animation is very stylized.
But it doesn't quite feel weird to me.
