If Disney tries to redesign Oswald the Rabbit, what do you artists out there think it will look like?

Let's not go there. I think it's best not to give them any ideas.;):rabbit:

He'll probably wear a totally extreme bicycle helmet with matching shoulder and knee pads. And a sneer.

Well, here's a quick couple of designs I came up with .....
I figure since he was created before Mickey, maybe he should share the same proportions as the mouse. The black & white version is based on the modern take of Oswald's merchandise ....

I like the B/W version that's attached in your thumbnail. It reminds me of Animaniacs.

Just a thought I had,
If Disney hadn't given up the rights to Oswald, would he have developed Mickey?
If Oswald ended up becoming the major Disney star, would Warners had developed Bugs?
If Warners did not develop Bugs, would they have had Porky or Daffy as their major player?

That's what a few others and I have been thinking lately as well. Maybe it's a good thing Disney lost the rights to Oswald... If he'd have kept him it would've really thrown a wrench in the works of animation history!

Also, would Woody Woodpecker have ever appeared? :woody:

I imagine it'll be like Freddie Moore's revamp of Mickey Mouse. They'll probably give him full eyes, Mickey Mouse's snout instead of a white snout, and a colourful wardrobe.

Either that or a rapping surfer... I, personally, hope they don't change him at all....

A brand-new "silent" Oswald short, in black and white, looking like he used to, would be a terrific idea!

Here's my redition of a "what-if Disney kept Producing Oswald cartoons"...(It may be a little rough looking...I drew it quickly with Microsoft paint...)

Debbie~

THAT is probably darned close to what Oswald would've looked like by about 1950 if under Disney's continued production!! Thanks for the smile!:bosko: :rabbit:

Believe it or not... we almost got something like that from UNIVERSAL. Oswald was originally intended to appear on the 1990s Woody Woodpecker Show in new segments done in the style of 1920s-30s cartoons. That "retro" looking Oswald that appeared on the recent Japanese merchandise and in the Mexican comic books was the design that was going to be used.

Even though he never appeared on the show, the new Oswald model sheet was distributed with the updated Woody Woodpecker licensing material (along with model sheets of other Lantz characters who were updated, and never used, on the Fox Woody show including Windy & Breezy, Inspector Willoughby, Denver Dooley, and possibly others).

Either that or a rapping surfer... I, personally, hope they don't change him at all.... I can definately see that happening! (See attachement below)

On a more serious note, I think Debbie's idea is the most plausible and likely one and it does look very Disney-esque, and I would like to see a costume character looking like that in Disney land.

You're welcome...I think that's one thing that cartoons can do that made me want to be a cartoonist myself...make people smile. I taught myself to draw by copying from Disney books and Peanuts cartoons (but I'm getting off-topic now...) I just thought Oswald looked a lot like the early Mickey, so I just updated him to the 1950's comics version of Mickey...(Personally, I like the earlier Mickey design and personality better myself). I haven't seen any Oswald cartoons, though...

Oswald was redesigned in the mid 30s as a chubby white rabbit and remained that way into his last appearance in the 40s in EGG CRACKER SUITE (1943).:rabbit:

The whole white to flesh-tone face color change that Mickey went through (and done by Debbie with Oswald) reminds me of how Western Publishing did it to Felix in the 1940s...

The odd thing about the application of "flesh tone" on Felix in this manner is that it makes him look more like his Minstral Makeup face origins than he did in black and white.:felix:

The whole white to flesh-tone face color change that Mickey went through (and done by Debbie with Oswald) reminds me of how Western Publishing did it to Felix in the 1940s...Western also seemed to be channeling Hanna and Barbera with those cover gags. Your example really captures that critical moment of anticipatory pain right before the gag. Skiddoo and his pal are about to deliver some serious hurt.

Here's a couple of images I came up with invisioning if Walt kept the rights to Oswald, then Warners would probably not have developed bugs ...

OK, Oswald as the Sorcerer's Aprentice is the biggest laugh I've had all day! Thanks! :rabbit:

Okay, I admit, I'm becoming sort of obsessed with this whole "Oswald-never-leaving-Disney" thing.
I just revamped a scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit which would probably have been if Walt kept Oswald & Warners developed Daffy .....
Enjoy!
