Wow, amazing screen shots like usual, DD! Great choices of expressions, too. You actually make one of my least favorite WB shorts look good.
I am looking forward to a trip to Pingo Pongo soon... ;)

Nice, you can actually make out some of the details on the ghostly cat.

By the way , have you noticed that in some scenes Li'l Sambo just look like Elmer , turned black and with bigger lips ?

Duck,
The screenshots look nothing short of fantastic, but judging by the screenshots, it's kinda easy to see why this usually isn't considered one of the better Censored 11 Cartoons.

Yeah, amazing captures, but the cartoon doesn't thrill me. Sambo is obviously adapted from the character in "All This and Rabbit Stew", and it's probably a good thing the character didn't make it. He appeared in comics, that I know...but for how long, I don't.
There's just something about a deliberately stereotyped black kid murdering a cat that makes me feel guilty watching this cartoon!

Hey Matthew,
He's in the comics from 1942 to 1944. He never got a story of his own, as far as I know— just made guest appearances in other characters' stories, and not too many (around five).

I agree that story-wise this toon is quite a mess. First we see Sambo on his way to drown a cat but is reluctant to do so revealing to us a kind, gentle soul. And yet, instead of the cat being greatful that the boy's kindness has let him live another day, he decides to torment poor Sambo with trickery. In this scenario we feel too much sympathy for Sambo and really hate that cat.
However, there is one aspect of this toon that makes it worth watching (for me anyway). Li'l Sambo moves so beautifully. The animation that Ken Harris (and possibly Bobo Cannon) put into his performance is nothing short of awesome. I wish MORE characters moved like that. :)

You are right !
The plot line of the cartoon is just too silly ! Why the cat starts tormenting poor Sambo when the li'l black boy is going to save his life ?

And you are right here too !
I always disliked this cartoon , but Sambo is animated in a great way !

Wow. By seeing these pictures, I'm compelled to sit through one of my least favorite LT cartoons.
Great job, as usual.

Very much so. The scene that Andrea used for his avatar was animated by Bob Cannon. There's great character animation on the cat, especially when he's dressing up as a ghost, which was done by Ken Harris.
If I didn't dislike this cartoon so much, I'd be compelled to watch it now too. :)
Thanx, Duck... another nice print.
AP really is nicely produced... and in equal measure, it's uncomfortable to watch -- even for me, and I'm the first to insist on having them all accessible.
And of course they must be.
I hope WHT keeps an eye on the various animation forums so they can confirm what is obvious to us, if not necessarily to them: The Censored 11 (or by now, it's prolly more like The Censored 111) must be released... somehow, some way, some time... even if it takes drastic measures -- tedious celebrity disclaimers / difficult easter eggs / special-order, DNA-verified, mail-only DVDs.
Whatever it takes.
