Me too !

But I cannot believe that some masterpieces like " THE OLD GREY HARE ", " RABBIT OF SEVILLE "and " WHAT'S OPERA DOC ? " did not even receive a nomination !

Well at the time it was made, WHAT'S OPERA DOC was not exactly recognized as a great cartoon. The same can be said with ONE FROGGY EVENING.

None of these Oscar nominated cartoons are amongst my own favourite Bugs cartoons, but... that's the Oscars for ya...

after all... "What's Opera Doc" never got a nomination... I think that "Knighty Knight Bugs" only got a nomination because the academy were a bit guilty about not giving a Bugs cartoon an award... That's not to say that "Kinghty..." wasn't a good cartoon. I'm simply saying that better toons never got a look in during previous years, and that the Academy were just making a belated effort to acknowledge Bugs and his success. No disrespect to Friz, by any means - he made better films deserving more respect in his career. Why on earth did it take the Academy until 1958 to acknowledge his talent, long after Friz had made such good toons as Pigs In A Polka, Rabbit Rhapsody, Slightly Daffy, Hollywood Daffy, Back Ally Oproar, Hare Do, Canned Feud... (and tons more - better stop there, or I'll be here all night!)
The Oscars are not a measure of cinemaric greatness, by any means - the love of an audience after 50-odd years is a true measure of greatness. That is the measure of whether a film will last...:D

I read somewhere that Eddie Selzer himself blocked What's Opera, Doc? from getting an Oscar nomination. Possibly because Jones had fought him on everything since he aquired power over the studio.

Another scandal is that Bob Clampett never received a single nomination !!

There are a great number of his cartoons that would at least deserve a nominee .
I have read that " Falling Hare " was supposed to be nominated but then nothing happened .
What a shame .
" Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs " and " Tin Pan Alley Cats " were probably limited for their sterotyped gags about the black community but , anyway , Lantz' " Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B " , full of stereotypes , got a nominee .

Other classics like " A Corny Concerto " or " Horton Hatches the Egg " and " Book Revue " were also totally ignored .
