I just found this on Ebay: an early Mighty Mouse made before they changed his name to Mighty Mouse. As I recall, the original negatives have been tampered with.

Enjoy! (http://cgi.ebay.com/16mm-COLOR-Cartoon-SUPER-MOUSE-MIGHTY-MOUSE-1943_W0QQitemZ6475726385QQcategoryZ63821QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem)

My impression is that this is an ordinary Mighty Mouse print. Note the "Images are for illustration purposes only" line(to me it seems that the Super Mouse card illustration has been taken from Jerry Beck's Original Terrytoons Titles (http://www.cartoonresearch.com/terrytoons.html) site). And at no point the seller states that the print actually has the Super Mouse titles (quote: "complete with titles & credits").
My understanding is that the Super Mouse card from Jerry Becks's page is a singular lucky find so rare that it's nearly unique.
Very nice collector's item nonetheless. I won't bid on it though, having no 16mm projector.

Ahhh....It takes a keen mind to see through such transparent devices. We all thank you.

There used to be a guy in Indiana who was selling bootlegged TV shows on VHS under the company name "TV Lost And Found." He had a compilation tape called "Cartoon 1st," which included a lot of "first appearances" of some cartoon characters (he fudged on this a little bit in some cases). It had the first Tom & Jerry, the first Porky Pig, the first Little Audrey, etc. One of the cartoons was a Mighty Mouse called "Down With Cats." On the back cover it said "Very rare! Called by his original name Super Mouse!"

And it was (although this is not the "first" Mighty Mouse cartoon, but who cares).

But here's the deal: it was a black and white Castle Films print (probably 16mm sound) and the opening titles were refilmed Castle Films titles. It said (as I recall) something like "Mighty Mouse, this film to be used only in homes and residences," but in the actual dialogue of the cartoon, the character was referred to as "Super Mouse," that is, the audio was unaltered from the original. (Just an aside, I swear I remember seeing a MM cartoon on Channel 32 in Chicago where the off-screen announcer literally said, "It's SIGHTY (sic) MOUSE!" Oops.)

So at least "Down With Cats" is out there. (I'm typing this before I have actually looked at the ebaY listing.) I don't know off the top of my head how many of the early Mighty Mouse cartoons actually called him "Super Mouse" and I also don't know if any of the others were released by Castle...and if they were, I don't know if they would have had the original audio.

But depending on what it's going for, it's probably worth a shot.

Postscript: I just looked at the listing. You're right. Not only does it not say the titles are original, but it doesn't even really say he's called "Super Mouse" in this print. It says the character was originally called "Super Mouse" and that the name was later changed to "Mighty Mouse." That's it.

And it's in color too. I'd guess that this is not the real deal. It's not really misleading...but shall we say, it's "strongly implied" that this is a "Super Mouse," but it very likely isn't.

I've emailed the seller, who told me that the film has the Mighty Mouse main title, not Super Mouse.

For years, I have been looking for "The Mouse of Tomorrow" (the very first
Mighty Mouse cartoon). Has this short ever been released on any video or
DVD to your knowledge?:mighty:

Not to my knowledge. Jerry Beck, however, released a bunch of Terrytoons a while ago from his Cartoonresearch site. There may be some DVDs left.
