View Full Version : GAC Exclusive - Golden Collection Vol. 2 News!
Much hype has been over discussing what will be on the upcoming Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2 DVD collection, and yours truly has managed to get a load of information on the features of this set!
Items of interest include the following:
"I Love to Singa", "Book Revue", "Baby Bottleneck", and "Back Alley Oproar" will have their original titles restored for the first time since their original release.
"Old Glory" will have its original restored end title (but will still have Blue Ribbon opening).
"Have You Got Any Castles" has restored opening and closing Wolcott sequences (but still Blue Ribbon titles).
All cartoons (Blue Ribbon or not) are restored from their original negatives...
Complete, newly restored prints of "So Much for So Little", "Orange Blossoms for Violet", and "The Adventures of the Road Runner" will be bonus features.
That's all for now folks!

While it's a real shame that most of the BRs in the set will not have the original titles restored (specially the historically significants "Tweety pie" and "The Hep Cat" and cult favorite "Duck Soup to Nuts"), it's still nice to hear that some of them will have the restored titles, it's also nice that "Old Glory" will have the original ending and "Have You Got Any Castles" will have the Woolcot scenes even though they are still both BRs.
Ah, well, I guess it's inevitable, yet it's still nice the cartoons are being restored from original negatives, can't wait to see them!

Wow, lots of good news about this set Thad!
I'm pretty disappointed that "Hep Cat" and "Have You Got Any Castles" won't have their main titles restored. There's an original of "Duck Soup To Nuts" in UCLA's library, too.... guess there's some lending issues going on.
Still, it will be great to see those other titles restored... they're such great cartoons!!:sylvester
Great news! :D :speedy: I wonder what the ending to "Old Glory" is like... It's a shame that the others will not have their original titles though, even though I didn't think that "Tweetie Pie" or "Hollywood Steps Out" would have them anyway. I guess they could of added the standard 1944 Looney Tunes titles to the begining of "Duck Soup For Nuts", though.

I hope that for the LTs that were repackaged as Blue Ribbon MMs (like "Book Revue" and "Baby Bottleneck") they remember to restore the closing title as well as the opening. In fact, I'd like to see them do that even for the ones where the titles aren't available (at least put Porky back at the end of "The Hep Cat").
Otherwise, this looks like a great list of extras. (I note that Mr. Beck's list seems to be missing a couple of commentaries, nos. 27 and 28 -- maybe there's a "Rhapsody Rabbit" commentary somewhere in there?)

Yay, my prayers are answered, a Have You Got Any Castles with Woolcoot opening and ending! The lack of totles is a shame, but the complete cartoon more than makes up for it. Fabulous news!

This release keeps sounding better and better. I'm real curious about the "vault" titles! Bet there's still more;)

Despite the fact that it's puzzling that they could find the original ending but not the opening to "Old Glory", I must say that this set is shaping up to be better than the first! Now everybody sing!
OVERTURE! CURTAINS! LIGHTS! This is it! The night of nights! No more rehearsing and nursing a part....

I didn't expect all the BR's to be reconstructed, but the restorations make up for anything.
I thought the 31 commentaries, 17 alternate audio tracks, and 9 featurettes were enough and the 4 bonus shorts, but the addition of the Chuck Amuck documentary, the 50th anniversary special, etc. make it even cooler...as if it wasn't cool enough!
Although, I am a little suspicious of one thing. This set is partially a Bob Clampett tribute and all of the Warner cartoons on the 50 greatest list, other than those on the first volume, are on this set.... except for one. I'm not saying anything, but it WOULD be a pleasant surprise if that one remaining Warner cartoon was "hidden" on the set. :sowhite:

I'd be shocked if :sowhite: made it onto one of these things even as a "hidden" item, but we can always hope...
Horton Hatches the Egg would be a nice bonus, as well.

You mean to tell me that we still haven't found the original titles to "Tweetie Pie"? It's incredible that nobody preserved the original version of the first Warner cartoon short to win an Oscar.
But all that aside, this is an outstanding set, even better than the first from the looks of things. Even with the weird cover art, what matters is the content. And if "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs" turns out to be an Easter Egg, I will flip out (in a good way).

I wonder if we'd get a "disclaimer" on an easter egg.? Though I think this cartoon should be available, I think it should first be put into context for those who might not know as much about it as us cartoon freaks, a'la the Disney Treasures collection. I doubt that it'll be on there anyway, but it would be pretty awesome if it was.
I wonder whether any title card artwork (ones that were reissued) will turn up on the galleries. The original title card art for "Horton Hatches The Egg" is owned by Clampett's family.
Oh yeah and another thing. I sure hope those whiny reviewers (**cough**Aaron Strader**cough**) won't complain about the lack of cartoons such as "Robin Hood Daffy", "Knighty Knight Bugs", "Birds Anoymous", "The Abominable Snow Rabbit", etc. :(

You shoulda heard how loud I just shrieked (in a good way). I can't stand the suspense - whadja get me? Because if it's just so much as one of the Censored 11 or the 12 Missing Hares, I will hold you in such high regard until the day I die.

It's quite annoying to read threads on message boards that are nothing but "This set sucks! It doesn't have _________!"
Even if Warner sticks to 60 cartoons per set, it'll take another 14 or so volumes to get every last cartoon on DVD. Of course, if you take away most of the Buddy, 1965-1969, and other various "bad" cartoons, you can delete one or two volumes. Will anyone really be that dissapointed in not getting all of the Buddy cartoons or all of the Larriva Roadrunners and Daffy/Speedy cartoons? Or even "golden age" bombs like Tokio Jokio and Good Night, Elmer (the former would likely get a DVD release only if part of a WWII set or a Banned/Censored set)

Man, it's a shame some of the cartoons are still Blue Ribbons. I wanted especially to see "Have You Got Any Castles" with the original titles, and I hoped that it would have a commentary track to it.
Still, I'm very happy about the DVD set, and not discouraged at all by it. If only they changed the atrocious looking box for the DVDs.

Or even "golden age" bombs like Tokio Jokio and Good Night, Elmer ...I'd be extremely disappointed. It would mean that they think that they know which cartoons are the "best" and "worst," and if anybody likes the "worst," then tough. I don't like best-of sets, but I am looking forward to the second set a lot. If this best-of set-up means avoiding "bad" cartoons in the future, then there will be cause for complain. Just because a lot of people don't like "Skyscraper Caper" or "Buddy Steps Out" or whatever, it doesn't mean that these cartoons should be withheld from the public.

You're not missing anything by not watching a couple of Budy cartoons. They are not funny, and he is basically characterless.

I myself want IT ALL! The great, the good, the bad and the ugly. I want all the MGMs, all the Disneys, all the Fleischers, all the UPAs, et cetera. Even the Terrytoons-all of them!
If they aren't available, that will disappoint me considerably.

I saw Beer Garden, and Bug Hunt. I don't know if that will do anything, but thats my opinion compared to people who haven't seen them all.
