Not much of a mustache to me.

The Daffy here looks a little on the ugly and fat side.

I bought that cartoon back in the 70's. It was the only Daffy Duck cartoon available for sale at that time. It was black and white/silent. It was tough to be a cartoon fan in those days! We had worse things to worry about than the Blue Ribbon problem!:daffy:

I've found this website that has many pictures of cartoon film boxes, and on that site, is another "Conrad The Sailor" box (this time from a.a.p).

http://harrymccracken.com/boxes/conrad.jpg

They also have boxes for "The Upstanding Sitter" and "The Eager Beaver" (notice how they call it a "Blue Ribbon"), which look much better than the one above.

Well... Conrad looks like he's prissily (is that a word?)putting his hair in its place (actually he looks like a relative of that character from a Post cereal but the name escapes me) and Daffy's feet are tiny...wonder how he can stand up with that beer belly and the huge bill.

They also a lot of 8mm Lantz cartunes like "Pest of the Show" and "Stowaway Woody" and also a ugly Chilly Willy model for "Swiss Missfit"

The Upstanding Sitter and the Eager Beaver were from an earlier 8mm release available from sometime in the 60's. There were a lot more titles in this earlier set. Some were available in 8mm Color Magnetic sound, but were edited down to 100 ft.(about 5 minutes). I have Toy Trouble, The Brave Little Bat and a couple of others in this format. I also have a complete, but black and white Gruesome Twosome.

I'm not sure who it was, but in the 70's full versions of some WB's were being sold on Super 8 sound, eastman stock (color fades.)
Probably Niles, who sold many cartoons including Superman.

Hey, would anyone be interested in a gallery of a more extensive collection of film boxes? Maybe onceI get some sort of silent cartoon site, I can do this. I have loads of different 8mm and 16mm boxes, but I'd like to see if there's any interest first.

United Artists bought out A.A.P., which is how they came to own this cartoon. (In fact, that looks like the 1970's United Artists/Transamerica logo PASTED ONTO the box over an earlier logo). Anyhoo, Turner bought the MGM/UA library, Time Warner took over Turner, and voila! Warners once again owns this cartoon.

It's now being autioned off on eBay here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63821&item=6322389401&rd=1). Before this week, I have never heard Doc being referred to as "Dynamo Doc" - the single worst promotion of all time! :p

Also, if you want to see a poorly drawn version of the Alex Lovy Chilly Willy design with white feet - click here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63821&item=6321575410&rd=1)!

Yes, there were some public domain titles available in plain white boxes. Quality varied. There were also cartoons available from a foreign source with non-english titles added. The cartoons themselves were in English. These were sold in jewel-boxes and the quality was pretty good. These included mostly 50's and 60's cartoons. But I got a nice copy of Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid from that group, the only Clampett that I know of that was sold that way!
