How could the Fleischer Brothers studio not make the list? Popeye, Betty Boop, & Superman - about as classic as you can get. Also, the first studio after Disney to release feature length animation.

(Obviously, you can guess my bias by my user name.)

I'm going to assume that most of the votes for "Other" are votes for Fleischer.

Just a small note. I do not consider "Paramount" to be equivalent to "Fleischers." That would be like listing Disney as either R-K-O or United Artists. "Paramount," to me, indicates the Famous Studios product that was produced after the Fleischer Brothers. There is a clear distinction in the cartoons that were released while Max & Dave ran the studio and what came later.

Instead of having one entry for "Paramount," the poll should have two entries, one for Fleischer Studios and one for Famous Studios. Paramount took over Fleischer Studios, fired the Fleischers, and renamed the studio Famous in 1942. While the Famous cartoons have a polished, professional look about them, their humor descended into the juvenile.

I voted for WB, MGM, and "Other" for Fleischer.

This is gonna say really funky, but I am going to compare three of these companies as if it was wrestling, so here it goes:

MGM: It's like ECW. It has hard-hitting sight gags and imaginative storylines that neither WB and Disney could conjure up. Surprisingly enough, I thought MGM cartoons from 1968 were better than WB.

WB: It's like WCW. It was a really hot act with Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, and then quality declined until the studio "closed" in 1964. The "re-birth" didn't do the company any favors.

Disney: It's like WWE/F. The always-there feel makes sure that Mickey Mouse doesn't go away for an extremely long time. Sure there has been crap along the way, but common, its the only company that still makes cartoons.

For my vote, WB gets my vote.

I'd have to vote WB and MGM as my joint favourites - sadly, I can only cast one vote...:(

I voted Other, translated as "All of the Above Excepting DePatie-Freleng" (and with my apology to Pink Panther fans, because I've never quite been able to warm up to any DFE series besides that one).

The same should be done for "Columbia" since UPA was a separate entity.

Who would be Hulk Hogan? You know, the guy who got booed out of WWF in 1992 because he was scared of Ric Flair and basically wore out his welcome, also the guy who ruined Sting's career and ultimately WCW as a whole(Starrcade 97). I trash Hogan every chance I get because he is scum.

Actually, this is a multiple choice poll, so yes, you can cast more than one vote.

Really, how could you forget the Fleischers :sailor: :betty: ????

I voted for Other (meaning Fleischer Studios:betty: :sailor: ) and MGM (:tomcat: :jerry: :twoshoes: :droopy: :wolfie: :red: :bbear: ).

However, WB(:bosko: :bugs2: :daffy: :ham: :dodo: :sowhite: ) and Disney(:mickey: :donald: :goof: ) come very, very close.

I can't say that one is better than the other. It would be a toss-up between Warners, Disney and MGM.

I like WB the best, but voted for WB, MGM, and Disney because I enjoy all 3 studios' output tremendously.

I voted for Warners since most of my favorite cartoons and characters come from that studio. They were the funniest cartoons from any studio of that period. Their animation was wilder and brasher (at least in the 40's). Also, the directors' styles and individual quirks were allowed to shape the material, as opposed to the producer. :bugs2: :daffy: :tweety: :sylvester :ysam: :befuddled :coyote: :beepbeep: :lepew: :ham: :marvin: :foggy: :sowhite: :dodo: :bugs1:

However, Disney was the place to be in the early to mid-thirties. They were head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality. The artists there were allowed to experiment despite the financial cost to the budget. This is almost unheard of today (maybe Pixar is the exception). Disney's animators discovered "stretch and squash" and most other animation principles that would be used by all the other classic animation studios in the 40's and 50's. If there was a 2nd place vote I would give it to Disney just for these innovations. (In the aftermath of the bitter strike of '41 the Disney cartoons become bland, and lost their edge to Warners, MGM, Lantz, UPA, etc.) :mickey: :donald: :goof:

I would give third place to MGM, mainly for the Tex Avery cartoons of the 40's. They had the spirit of his Warner cartoons but with the lushness that was the hallmark of MGM. :droopy: :wolfie: :red:

I vote for Walter Lantz

This is not about the best cartoons, but the best studio.
Walter Lantz's studio was like a family...

Instead of having one entry for "Paramount," the poll should have two entries, one for Fleischer Studios and one for Famous Studios.

I thought of making Fleischer and Famous separate entries, but I didn't. If I did, I would have had to include all these: Harman-Ising, Leon Schlesinger Productions, Warner Bros., Warner Bros. - Seven Arts, Disney, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Fleischer Studios, Famous Studios, Harrison-Gould, Screen Gems, UPA, Terrytoons and DePatie-Freleng.
