The original cartoons are in the public domain, but Time Warner holds copyrights to the restored prints.

Not to mention decrypting encrypted data (read: copying copy-protected DVDs) without permission is very illegal in the United States.

The restored versions would probably not turn up on PD releases, since the people restoring the films can register copyright for their own "restored" versions, thus stopping other distributors from making money out of their hard work.

Ok but, how can Warner Bros recognize restored cartoons by him seeing pd dvds? Maybe watching a sentence like "Restored version (C)Warner Bros MMV" ?
