Mmmm... that was... interesting.
Even though I'm not against CGI at all, I can't help but think that Popeye just doesn't look right here, the story isn't that bad (even though this is at least the fourth time Popeye is looking for Pappy) but it would have looked better using classic 2D animation and 3D backgrounds, in the vein of the classic Fleischer two-reelers.
The thing that bugs me the most is Bluto, why is all of a sudden Popeye's best buddy? Sure, in some cartoons they were friends, but that's usually until Olive shows up, and here we see them both team-working along with Olive.
Billy West is OK as Popeye, he's no Jack Mercer, but at least he's better than Maurice LaMarche, and whoever did the voice in "Be Kind to Aminals".
The music doesn't sound as bad as I though it might be, at least they're using the classic "I'm Popeye the Sailorman" tune.
Considering Paul Reiser is writing it, this might not be as bad as most people think of, but this DVD is most definitely not going into the top of my "To Buy" list, yet I hope I watch it someday to give a fair opinion. :sailor:

Mmmm... that was... interesting.I don't like how in one of the scenes Bluto was in he was acting all wimpy and scared. Also, I didn't think that Billy West's Popeye voice is all that great either. When Popeye was mumbling it almost sounded like a dumbed down version of West's terrible Bugs voice. And the animation looks like it was done in 1992... I don't think even better character designs could have made this look any better, with the sloppy videogame-look that this thing has.
Oh yeah, I didn't like how the voiceover guy said "Popeye's first CGI adventure"... This implies that there could be more of these...

I'm not impressed. Why is Bluto referred to as an "old friend"? :sailor:
