View Full Version : LTGCv3 Pre-Ordered On Amazon
Well, I finally pre-ordered Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 3 on Amazon today. I chose the option for Free Shipping (5-9 business days) but it says estimated shipping date was Oct 31st (with delivery latest by Nov 9th). I thought Volume 3 was being released on Oct 25th? Oct 31st is almost a week later.
Anybody else in the same boat as me? Damn it's going to be hard waiting (up to) 2 weeks to see this while others will already have it in their hands...
Maybe I'll cancel and pick it up at Costco. Does anybody have any idea what LTGCv1 or v2 retailed for when they were first released in Costco and if they were released the day of?
What about Best Buy? Target?
Man, I'm sounding like a 13-year old kid here, but dag I'm excited...

Yeah, same here except mine estimates shipping on the 29th....
What happened to the days when people pre-ordered and actually got them BEFORE the release date since they would ship as soon as they received them in order for them not to come late....
I don't know why they can't ship on the 25th.

This thread (http://forums.dvdfile.com/showthread.php?t=38145) says that two years ago LTGCv1 sold for $39.99 at Costco on Oct 28, 2003...which was the release date of Volume 1.
I have a Costco membership. Hmmm, maybe I should cancel the Amazon order and camp-out at Costco. There's something to be said for picking it up in your hands and walking to a cash register...

Amazon is always a great place to shop. That's where I usually get the Disney Treasures. I did a post last year about the problems I ran into trying to locate this at Wal-Mart and Target here (http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/showthread.php?p=8365#post8365). I got impatient and bought it at Best Buy around $50. I'll probably do the same this year. :daffy: Live and NOT learn. That's my motto.:p

Plus it's easier to return if the set is defective. I've found that brick & mortar stores usually let you swap out just the defective disc from a multi-disc set, whereas web stores demand that you return the whole set.

I already said this on another thread, but I reserved a copy at Suncoast because I complained to the clerk that there was no mention of the LTGC vol. 3 on the "Coming Soon" board that usually hangs in video and video game stores to tell shoppers when their favorite movie, video game or DVD compilation will come out, and since I did what anyone of you in my place would have done (complained, then revealed my love for the classics in a setting that doesn't involve typing on this page), I decided to reserve a copy since it would only be ten dollars off the purchase price and the clerk said that he would call me days before the release to remind me.
Since the DVD comes out on October 25th (a Tuesday), I'm mapping out a plan to get it. You see, I have school on Tuesdays: a class that starts at 10 am and ends at 12:50 in the afternoon (Video Production Workshop, where we make our own movies) and a class at 4 pm (Adult Psychology). I don't want to risk skipping class (even though my school doesn't punish people for skipping class unless they skip too many classes--then they just end up failing the course), butI was thinking of using my 12:50 to 3:59 break to get it (or if I'm told to get it a day early, I can just go after Screenwriting class on Monday). It'll be a long walk, but it'll be worth it. I hope.

as a recent film school graduate, I can assure you that skipping any classes in film school will not harm your future. I have yet to lose a job because the producer looked at my transcript and wondered why I was tardy for a screenwriting class.
a majority of the filmmakers that I know that went to film school were notorious for skipping classes to watch movies.

Yeah, I ordered Vol. 1 like that too. It wasn't through Amazon though, it was through some other company whose name escapes me now. And, the same thing happened to me too, it arrived a good week and a half later than everyone else who bought it in a store. So, that where I buy my LTGC from now on.

You chose the option for free shipping.
If you'd have paid for shipping, they'd have sent it out immediately. Because you chose free shipping, you have to wait until they've dispatched all the items for people who've paid for shipping - theirs go first, yours go last.
And while I weep for you having to wait a whole extra week, spare a thought for those of us in Europe - we're unlikely to see this set over here for at least another 6 months.

There are tradeoffs to everything, and that includes free shipping.
Good. Fast. Cheap. Pick two.
Well I cancelled my order with Amazon and decided to brave it with the retail stores. I'll be hitting Costco October 25th after work and if they don't have it, trolling around until I find a copy...we also live near a Walmart and a Best Buy. This is what consumer greed does to you, I guess...
And while I weep for you having to wait a whole extra week, spare a thought for those of us in Europe - we're unlikely to see this set over here for at least another 6 months
That does suck to have to wait 6+ months for no real reason. Anybody know why they are delayed so long to other parts of the world?

Jeff,
Inspired by your post, I emailed Amazon customer service. Here is what I wrote:
I understand that this is a pre-order, that is due to be
released on October 25th. Why is there a 4 day lag time to put this
together and ship it? (Oct. 29) I am considering cancelling this and buying it
in-store since the shipping service is so slow.
Thank You,
Josh Here is what they replied (My order details omitted of course):
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

Too bad about the wait. Although you may be correct in this assumption that they send the free shipping out last, I don't think that is good customer service. If they offer the shipping free, and the product is available, they should ship it immediately. And as my email shows, it is perhaps (although they may be just trying to please me in their reply) just a matter of a computer assigning a ship date according to some algorithm without regard to how quickly they can or will actually ship it out.
Josh
magadizer,
Good work! For my part, now that I'm committed to not wait for any shipping, I'm too geeked to switch back. Even if it costs me another $10 I figure it's worth it, this is my one vice in life ;)

if I'd only waited a year for Vol. 2, I could have snagged it for $28.

Actually,
Upon further inspection (following the "your account" link) it looks like they changed my free super saver shipping to (still free) standard shipping as well, which means only 3-5 business days...so now my estimated delivery is Nov. 1!
Now, I did not expect to get this, nor did I ask for it, but I'm satisfied now to wait for delivery. After all, I'll save even more on gas costs.:tweety:
