While watching a copy of WB's "Meet John Doughboy" from a past Cartoon Network aring, I noticed where an edit appears to have occured. It is right after the Jack Benny/Rochester car scene fades out. For a split second, I see a dim picture of a "Life" magazine cover and all of a sudden a newspaper scene quickly takes over. Can someone tell me what, if anything is missing here?
Thanks,
Jim

as far as I know, it was like that when it was first released. The scene may have carried prohibited information about WWII, that had to be spliced out (like how the Snafu cartoon "Going Home" was not released because the cartoon showed an atomic bomb, and the army apparently did not want their atomic bomb project get leaked out on the street). That's just a theory.
there's another bizzare edit with the oil tower. It begings to melt and then the cartoon abruptly cuts to the next scene (i suppose Bob Clampett thought the oil tower meting into oil was a funky gag, so he had it snipped.)

A bit of a correction: the "oil tower" is really supposed to be a spoof of the RKO Radio logo. I don't know what's cut though.

The 20+ year-old tape of a 16mm print I have is as described above. One other thing I noticed: an early gag with a big guy and a midget talking over the draft situation; the big guy has a very distinctive design to him, like a caricature of someone. I want to say a Warner cartoon staffer, but I can't quite place it. Any ideas?
