Last night I watched the "Simpsons" episode "Marge in Chains" on DVD and noticed a scene of the Osaka flu germs going around town where one set stopped at a red light while another set went at a green one. I noticed this was similar to the sequence of the bullets in DRIP-ALONG DAFFY.

Well, the writers and producers of "The Simpsons" love paying tribute to classic cartoons. There's a hilarious sequence in "Bart's Inner Child" from Season 5 where Homer, in an attempt to get rid of the trampoline that's been responsible for countless juvenile injuries in his backyard, throws the thing off a desert cliff, only for it to bounce off a rock, fly back up into the air, and pummel him into the overhang of the cliff - a wonderful Wile E. Coyote-esque tribute to Chuck Jones' films. Says Homer while pinned under the trampoline, "If this were a cartoon, the cliff would break off now." Fade to several hours later, in the dead of night - Homer is still trapped under the trampoline ("I'm thirsty..."), until the cliff finally crumbles and sends him plummeting into the chasm below. Classic.

Of course, if you want the full version of this scene, you have to buy "The Simpsons: The Complete Fifth Season" on DVD, because the syndicated version of this episode cuts out the second half of this gag (as well as the entire scene that follows it).

And of course there's the time when Homer is at a police line-up and asked to point out the alien. Among the suspects is Marvin the Martian, who is made "very angry" when dejected.

"Simpsons" nothing. What about "South Park"? They made so many obscure LT references, that it's obvious the creators are big fan.

On the recent Simpsons season premiere Carl told the porno director that he had a Foghorn Leghorn tattoo on his thigh.

:foggy: -Wha..... Ah say, what a coincidence! I have a tattoo of Carl on my thigh.

I've noticed that in Simpsons episode EABF03 - "The Dad Who Knew Too Little", there's a scene with Homer eating a pair of trousers at the mall and then taking a zipper out of his mouth, just like the moth in "Eatin' on the Cuff".

I started watching The Simpsons during the original broadcast of the first season. That season was pretty good.

But it was the second season that made the show be one of my favorites of all time. That season is the season that I consider to be my favorite.

I've seen the episodes from seasons 1-7 in repeats and syndication multiple times, and I am quite familiar with them. With season 8, I thought the show started to really go down in quality. There are many recent episodes that I haven't seen even once.

Several weeks ago, I bought the second season on DVD, and I watched all the episodes in just a few days. I was very pleased. This is the only season that I own. I may buy a few other seasons in the future.

Last night, I listened to the commentaries on the first three episodes of season two. All three commentaries had at laeast one reference to Looney Tunes.

On "Bart Gets An F," the commentary is along the lines of, "That's a reaction shot like Chuck Jones or Friz Freling. The character's eyes move, but the rest of him stays still."

Then in the same episode, "That's a parody of How The Grinch Stole Christmas."

Then in "Simpson and Delilah," it says, "Karl kissing Homer is a first. Oh wait, no it's not. I forgot about Bugs Bunny kissing Elmer Fudd."

Then in "Treehouse Of Horror," it says, "The birds flying around the character's head after the character gets hit in the head is like what they do in Looney Tunes."

Those aren't exact quotes. I'm just going from memory.

More commentaries from season 2.....

In "Bart The Daredevil," they mention that when Homer falls down the cliff, they tried to make it look very different from the way that Looney Tunes characters fall.

In "Itchy And Scratchy And Marge," they say that they hate the censorship of Looney Tunes on TV.
