For all those interested, the Southside Works Cinema will be showing classic Warner Bros. cartoons on Sept. 10 at 12:00 noon. I haven't been able to get the titles (the man I called just said WB put together an hour's worth or so together for him), but I thought it was my duty to sound the call, as it were.:)
Here's the website for the theater: www.southsideworks.com (http://www.southsideworks.com)

I'm happy for you folks in Pittsburgh. NY and LA don't get all the screenings.

No they don't. In fact, I'm hosting a private screening in my area in just a few weeks. I'll be sure to let everyone here know how it turns out.

I'd love to go to this screening, but my budget is kinda tight at the moment. Plus, the gas prices aren't helping much, either. We do have a local Uptown Theater (http://www.uptowntheatre.info/), but i have yet to see them hold a cartoon festival.

Heck, NY still gets only a fraction of the screenings in LA, but I know Nelson and Tom (among others) are working as best they can to remedy that situation. :D

Excuse me if I let off some steam here, because I just found I can't reconcile my work schedule with this, so I can't go either. As far as locations go, the problem is this: Even if N.Y. has fewer showings than L.A., the fact remains that both cities seem to have cartoon screenings on a fairly regular basis, so if you miss one, there's usually another one coming not far down the line. Not to mention the fact that screenings in N.Y. and L.A. usually are of rare or special shorts not regularly seen anywhere. While I'm sure this showing would be run-of-the-mill WB shorts, this is still the first screening of any kind I've heard of in the Pittsburgh area since October. I know I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but still, I can't help but feel envious of those who have the chance to semi-regularly see cartoons in a theater. So I close this with a call-out to any Warner, Viacom, Disney, or other cartoon-owning studio employee who might be reading:
You say that no modern young person is willing to watch vintage cartoons. Well, here is a young person, within the prized 18-39 year old demographic, who would gladly pay good money to watch an official compilation of your cartoon shorts in a theater setting, regardless of what they are.
(Lets out huge sigh) There, I feel better now. I'm sorry if I rambled a little, or offended anyone (that most certainly was NOT my intent), but thank you for your kind indulgance.
