And perhaps second only to "I Love Lucy" in the ranks of Sitcoms That Will Never Go Away.

Peace be with you, "mighty sailing man."

I was very surprised to learn of the news about Bob Denver. I was guessing that Russell Johnson would be the next one to go.

"Gilligan's Island" has always been one of my favorite sitcoms, and, in fact, have all three seasons on DVD. I also bought two DVDs each of "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" and "The Wackiest Wagon Train in the West," as well as a DVD with "Dusty's Trail" episodes on it.

Now it's just The Professor, (Russell Johnson) The Movie Star, (Tina Louise) and Marry Anne (Dawn Wells) who are still with us. Rest in peace, little buddy.

since Bob Denver did do the voice of his character in animated New Adventures of Gilligan (1974), this is an OT thread.

he'll be missed - although if he hadn't been such a klutz, they would have been off that island in a matter of days.

my username is gilligan fanati because I am a huge Gilligan Island fanatic when I was typing my username I forgot the c. I am very sad my the loss of my favorite television actor from my favorite show. I wish I could have met him. I have all GI episodes on tape and DVD and I was glad I got his autobigoraphy last year which is signed by him. I did some tape trading and have four episodes from his 1968 series The Good Guys. I also enjoy him on Dobie Gilis. I have just about every episode of shows where he guest stared (minus the Love Boat and a few others) I even have episodes of GIlligans Planet. I even have episodes of Dusty's Trail. This is a major loss to me. I just wish that I could have met him.

ET will do a special toomorow and I hope there are specials and stuff like that. I think he should get a star on the walk of fame. I can't belive there are only three cast aways left now. I still can not belive the news.

For more information about specials Sitcoms Online says they will report them

Gilligan Fanati~

I loved Denver's series "The Good Guys" (starring him and Herb Edelman) which was set in a diner run by the two men and Edelman's wife (Joyce Van Patten)...
Very memorably they had a character "Mr. Binder" who was perpetually roaring-drunk. In a wonderful bit of casting they then cast Alan Hale Jr. as a trucker who sometimes cruised into the diner for a bite. A wonderful in-gag occurred on one wonderfully sublime show... Alan Hale was seated at the counter talking to Bob Denver, at that exact moment Mr. Binder staggered in (drunk as a skunk), took one bleary-eyed look at the two men at the counter and said "HEY!!!! Didn't I used to see you two guys together on some island on TV?!?!" (rough quote). :D :D

your right I thought it was real funny to bad more people like us can't see it because I think a lot of people would like it. It had 42 episodes which is a some what decent number.

here is a site I think you will like all about The Good Guys http://www.wtv-zone.com/dpjohnson/goodguys/index.html

Sogturtle,

I think the drunk was named "Mr. Bender." (A bender is another name for a binge.)

I remember the show. It wasn't on very long, and I only remember one joke from the show: One of the men suggested opening a gas station next to the diner so they could advertise, "Eat here and get gas."

Strange what sticks in your mind and what doesn't.

Yeah I know what a "bender" is (an uncle of mine was a chronic alcoholic:( ). And also that the character's name was pun on his boozing ways... But I simply didn't take the time to check the spelling of said character's name. And his face was UNFORGETTABLE!!!;)

That's certainly one way to get himself off the island.

Hmmm. Could we have our inspiration for a certain Futurama robot here?

Sogturtle,

I know how destructive alcoholism can be - I have a family member (by rocky marriage, not blood) who is a nasty alcoholic. She has messed up a couple of lives besides her own. But some people can play a drunk and make it FUNNY. I actually forgot Mr. Bender's face until I saw the picture posted by Gilligan Fanati(c) and the memory came back.

Gilligan Fanati(c),

Great picture! Who played him, anyway?

I see he played "Drunk" in a lot of TV shows. And he was in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (as a stunt double for Jonathan Winters). But everybody was in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World."
