LOONEY TUNES #116
Written by Earl Kress, Sam Agro and Bill Matheny; art by Walter Carzon, Ruben Torreiro, David Alvarez and Mike DeCarlo; cover by Alvarez and DeCarlo

What’s a girl to do when Pepe le Pew and Taz are fighting over you? Plus Pete Puma, Yosemite Sam, and the fearless, clueless detectives Daffy and Porky!

Cover features art by David Alvarez and Mike DeCarlo, with Pepe Le Pew and Taz.
------------------------------------------

Not a bad issue, overall. The cover story is not near as entertaining as the concept promises, but still good, and David Alvarez's artwork is excellent as always. Keep an eye on Pepe, he almost looks like his early 1945 self in some panels.:lepew: I really enjoyed the Yosemite Sam/Pete Puma pairing, I thought that was a very original and entertaining idea, and it has some great gags. The final story leaves me cold, Daffy and Porky are cartoon crime scene investigators. :daffy: Walter Carzon's artwork is nice, the characters are well adapted, but the story is just...blah. I recommend that you check this one out, not the greatest issue but not at all something to pass on buying.

Anyone else read this one and wish to comment? Be my guestht.... :sylvester

I don't have #116, but I do have #117. It was really good, especially the first story where Daffy tries to pass off Bugs as a Jackalope for a big cash prize.

I'm hoping that one came to my campus mailbox,(They don't forward my subscription in the summer) :shame: because NOBODY seems to have a copy of that issue here in Fort Worth. NOBODY. Tried every book store in town.

Hey Matthew,

Thanks for the kind words about my Yosemite Sam/Pete Puma story. I'm glad you liked it!

Oh, you're welcome! Glad to see you here at GAC. I enjoy your work on the comics. You and your colleagues seem to really understand these characters and are doing a much better job than anybody else at keeping them alive. :bugs2:

Yes, I agree. DC's Looney Tunes is much more in keeping with the original spirit of the characters than most of the 'updated' animated versions. What did you think of the recent Duck Dodgers series? I was kind of dissappointed myself.

I wanted to like "Duck Dodgers". I liked the first 2 or 3 episodes of the series, but overall I thought it turned into nothing more than talking heads. Funny sometimes, but generally just a bland talk fest. They should've spent more money on character animation and less on CGI eye candy in the backgrounds. They also made Daffy a little too oblivious to the world around him...they played him more like Inspector Gadget than Daffy Duck.

The comics actually do some modern-style Dodgers stories sometimes, and they're better than anything they've done on the show. There's one in a recent issue that was written by Earl Kress and drawn by Neal Sternecky, with Dodgers as an invention tester for Marvin Martian. Funny stuff!
