Was it "Popeye the Sailor Man" or "I Yam What I Yam"?

As far as I know, the first one had the official title "Betty Boop Meets Popeye the Sailor Man". Basically it's the one where Betty Boop does a hula dance with Popeye at a carnival.

Edit: Woops, I guess i got it wrong. http://www.bcdb.com/cartoon/1750-Popeye_The_Sailor.html shows a capture of the title card. Officially it's a Betty Boop cartoon, but Betty has little more than a cameo in it, the focus is all Popeye. And it's Popeye's first animated appearance. So depends on how you want to think about it.

Plus, AFAIK, it was always part of the Popeye TV syndication package rather than the Betty Boops (or both). And anything that makes life less confusing is OK by me.

If you ask me, which nobody ever does, Popeye and Betty Boop should have done a cross-over cartoon. Maybe they can do so now since KFS owns the licensing rights to both Betty Boop and Popeye?

Think about it: :sailor: + :betty: = $$$

But they CAN NOT DO IT IN UGLY CGI!!! That's the only rule.

In terms of "debut, " it was POPEYE THE SAILOR. Although presented as a "Betty Boop Cartoon," it clearly was the first one. The first official release for the POPEYE series would be I YAM WHAT I YAM.:sailor:

Interestingly, with this being the 75th birthday of BETTY BOOP, her debut in DIZZY DISHES (1930) does not really count as the first official "Betty Boop Cartoon." Betty continued to be the rising star in the TALKARTOONS series over the next two years, and in 1932, was given her own official series beginning with STOPPING THE SHOW. The BETTY BOOP series replaced TALKARTOONS (1929-1932), which in turn replaced Max Fleischer's landmark OUT OF THE INKWELL (1918-1927) later renamed INKWELL IMPS (1927-1929).:betty:

I believe "Popeye the Sailor" aired today on Boomerang. If anyone needs it, it will air again tonight.

So who owns "Betty Boop Presents Popeye the Sailor", Time Warner or Viacom? If Time Warner owns it could it be a bonus feature or an easter egg in a WHV product since it's disguised an a Betty Boop film and just has the image of Popeye?

And I think that's a very, very good revival idea Peter, it's just that KFS would ruin it even if they decided to do it in traditional animation. But if executed correctly it can turn out to be a really successful cross-over revival! :betty: & :sailor:

Well I wasn't for sure if it was Paramount or Republic who would own BBPPTS so I just named their parent, Viacom.

Understandable, to be sure. But AFAIK, Viacom/Paramount has not owned any of the Fleischer or Famous Popeyes for some decades now (and Thank Heaven & The Manager Thereof for that!).

Yes I was refering only to BBPPTS. I'm thankful Paramount didn't get the AAP package back either because then we wouldn't have even got a program like The Popeye Show to air for awhile.

Really I'm only remembering this because I have pen ink scribbled in my hands. Let's see here, my left hand says "BETTY BooP=PARAmounT" and my right hand says "POPEYE @ wB". Got it.:D
