Every Sunday, there's a title panel tribute in Patrick McDonnell's "Mutts".

Well, this particular one looks like it came from an MGM Cartoon poster.

Does anyone have the original poster where this panel was based on?

That's sound fun and nice

It might not be a parody of a particular poster, other than MGM 1940s posters in general, but I'm guessing SCREWBALL SQUIRREL.

McDonnell also parodied the poster for TOUCHDOWN MICKEY in the title panel of one Sunday strip.

Any links to the actual posters the cartoonist might be parodying?

On the official "Mutts" website, there is a page that collects the title panels and the original picture that inspired the title.

Today's "Mutts" is a tribute to Popeye.

Looks like it was based on the poster for "The Screwy Truant" to me...

Never saw that particular poster, but that's definitley what McDonell was referring to. Thanks, Pietro!

Thanks, Pietro.

I guess McDonnell is a fan of Tex Avery, considering the poster is very obscure.
