When I say Garfield I mean the "Garfield and Friends" series :)
I always found this pretty funny. largely due to a sardonic, sarcastic Lorenzo Music as Garfield :D
How many episodes were made? Quite a lot I imagine.
I remember 2 theme tunes - the first one was the US Acres song ("friends are there/to help you get started/to give you a push on your way".. etc), and the 2nd one just went "Come on in/its time to party with Garfield and Friends"
Anyone remember an episode/segment that featured a spoof of He-Man and Transformers? (no really) :D

The first 4 seasons have already been released on DVD in 3 volumes.
You should pretty much get it if you're a big fan of the show. Everything is how it was on the Network broadcasts. Except U.S. Acres is called "Orson's Farm."
And the episode you're talking about is in the 2nd Volume, I believe.

Oh yeah, I remember it as Orson's Farm. :) But on the credits the song is always "US Acres" (didnt realise it was the same thing).
It gets shown on Boomerang UK quite a bit.

there were 121 episodes produced. only the first 72 episodes have been shown in syndication. each DVD volume has 22 episodes. the first season had 13 episodes, but after that, the show was expanded into an hour, although all episodes were produced as seperate half-hour shows. there must have been twice as many episodes for each season, since the DVDs each have half of two seasons.

Its only been shown in a 1/2 hour slot when I've seen it. :)
How much are the sets? This is a test to see if I like them enough to spend $40/50 on them... ;)
Remember the Orson episode where the gang try to find out what is under Sheldon's shell.. but its just another shell :D

They were a little over $30 in Best Buy the other day. Does anyone remember the musical cartoon where the ants invade Garfield, John and Odie's picnic. I kid you not-it's one of the BEST MUSICAL CARTOONS EVER imo and that's saying alot considering all of the classic musical cartoos. IIRC it was exactly a tune from the classical repertoire but it was catchy and the rest of the cartoon was real funny.

What do the Orson's Farm title cards say on the Garfield sets? US Acres or Orson's Farm? :)
Sorry, its confusing since the song is "US Acres" (I'm sure, it says so in the end credits of GaF on UK TV) but when I've seen it on UK TV the segments that bridge Garfield are Orson's Farm :)

It's billed as Orson's Farm, not US Acres.

Regarding syndication, I think only about half the episodes from the fourth season were syndicated. And then syndication was totally cut off at the middle of the fifth season. Why is that so?
BTW, my absolute favorite Garfield cartoon was always the episode where Jon, Garfield and Odie are trying to watch a late night movie and (literally) all that's on is Kung Fu Creatures On The Rampage 2. One of the greatest Saturday Morning cartoon shorts ever IMO!

Thanks :)
I don't remember the Kung Fu creatures episode, but I remember a Little Shop of Horrors-like one where Garfield, John and Odie are attacked by a plant from the store :D
I also liked the one where Garfield makes the slimy talkshow host pay for saying mean stuff about cats :D

BTW, what's the deal there ... international trademark registrations again (as with Pokemon/"Pocket Monsters," which I promise I won't detail here for the nth time)? (Anyone?)

I'm wondering that myself. Perhaps it was just an attempt to make the segments more marketable internationally?

Series writer mark Evanier has his own website, www.povonline.com, and I once e-mailed him, asking why only a limited number of episodes were not shown. he told me that when the series was sold to syndication, CBS still had broadcast rights to a certain number of episodes. after the series ended, the company that syndicates garfield was offered the remaining episodes, but they weren't interested. It was said that the episodes that already were in syndication were good enough and they didn't want to pay to show more episodes (if they were successful, then I don't know why they wouldn't think people wouldn't want to see more episodes).
he also said that the current syndication contract was ending soon, so if the show is resold to syndication, every episode could be included.
I belive so,and I mean legally,not "In horrible shape" bootlegs.:D

I have all 3 volumes of the Garfield and Friends DVDs and I can't wait for the fourth to come out next month. I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoyed the show when it used to be on TV.
I've also been collecting the Garfield television specials DVDs:
Garfield as Himself (contains Here Comes Garfield, Garfield on the Town, and Garfield Gets a Life)
Garfield Travel Adventures (contains Garfield in the Rough, Garfield in Paradise, and Garfield Goes Hollywood)
Garfield Holiday Celebrations (contains Garfield's Halloween Adventure, Garfield's Thanksgiving, and A Garfield Christmas)
There's also a fourth in this series called Garfield Fantasies (contains Babes and Bullets, Garfield's Nine Lives, and Garfield's Feline Fantasies), but unfortunately I don't have this one yet.:(

In the UK, we only have two Garfield DVDs: Garfield As Himself and Garfield Holiday Celebrations, but the contents does differ from the US version. In the former, Garfield Gets A Life is replaced by Garfield Goes Hollywood. And in the latter, Garfield's Thanksgiving is replaced by Garfield in the Rough. I've no idea why Fox UK would want to change the contents. It may be that the previous rights holder, M.I.A. Home Video, may still have the video rights to the later specials, but I reckon it might be down to other rights issues.
