In One froggy Evening, one of the frogs owners attempts to get people to his show was to offer free admission. However, if he wanted to be rich so badly, then how did he expect to get rich with free admission? I know that there were refreshments (he more successfully put out a "free beer" sign), but would refreshments have sold enough to make him rich?

He probably figured that as soon as people saw the frog singing and dancing that they'd become famous and riches would follow. But, of course, there was no way Jones or Maltese were going to let that happen. :o

I don't know... But stop and think of some of the "cheap theaters" that exist, featuring regular admission prices of $2 (and special rates on Tuesday!) that thrive and prosper. This because people save big bucks and then happily squander it on popcorn, candy, video games etc.

Sooooo maybe not rich per se, but such a thing as free admission (or nearly free) could make a guy quite comfortable monetarily... And THEN provide the necessary exposure to make Michigan J. and owner famous (as our friend Daffysleftfoot pointed out).
