I'm trying to hunt down some of the really early pre-code cartoons. I know usually the way this works is to trade, but I have nothing to trade. Can anybody help me out or tell me where I can find some of these classics on DVD?

Hi there,
Welcome to the board! There are a few things out on DVD that are pre-code, not that I follow sound releases too much, but things like Aesop's Fables from Van Beuren, Flip the Frog, among others.
Also, take a look at my website: geocities.com/tomstathes
Let me know if there's anything that interests you.
Enjoy your stay,
Tom Stathes

Welcome aboard!!:)

Welllll with nothing to trade then you're going to have to purchase... Of the pre-code toons there's a variety of the Betty Boops out on there on legit discs (and more on "less-than-legit discs":D ). As my friend Tom mentioned there's a good number of the Flip the Frogs on DVD, as well as some of the Van Beurens and a bunch of the Disney output, all of these strictly legit. The wonderful Boskos have been compiled on some bootlegs, but since they're public-domain then there's nothing inherently wrong with buying those, though of course being deprived of the 'original elements' the quality can vary.

For early Fleischer, Lantz, and Terrytoons there's virtually nothing available for any kind of sale.
