are there any cartoons that have characters in roles that could have easily been given to other characters? here are some:

*the role of the emperor in The Scarlett Pumpernickle could have been given to Yosimite Sam, instead of Porky Pig, while the grand Duke could have been played by Pepe Le Pew, instead of Sylvestor (or maybe pepe le pew could have had Elmer Fudds role).

*in A Corny Concerto, Porky Pig could have been the conductor and Elmer Fudd could have been the hunter. In fact, with the exception of Elmers cartoons with bugs bunny, most cartoons with either Porky Pig or Elmer Fudd could have easily had their roles switched. Porky could have been in To Duck Or Not To Duck and Doggone People, and Elmer Fudd could have been in Daffy Duck Hunt and Often An Orphan.

are there any roles you think could have been given to other characters?

Daffy could have been replaced by Pancho Vanilla in the Daffy/Speedy series. While Daffy's greediness is fine, he was way too mean in these cartoons.

Bugs role in "Rapshody Rabbit" should have gone to Sylvester. Then WB would have won another Oscar.

Although I haven't seen Panchos Hideaway, I think pancho could have easily been replaced by Yosimite Sam.

These are great ideas on paper, but when you start to actually write and draw it out, it's a lot easier to use the characters that were originally planned for these roles. Pepe Le Pew could not have been the Grand Duke because Pepe does not have a malicious personality like Sylvestor does. Sam couldn't be the emperor because he's much too rough to be royalty. If Porky did replace Elmer in A Corny Concerto, it wouldn't be as funny. And it is odd to see Porky as the hunter, but the point of A Corny Concerto was to be as wacky as possible - a human hunter wouldn't have cut it. As for Speedy/Daffy, Sam could have replaced Daffy in a couple cartoons, but the idea would have gotten stale fast - there isn't as much to do with Sam then there is with Daffy.
I do think that Sylvestor should have replaced Daffy in about half of the Daffy/Speedy shorts.

Yes...the Pancho Vanilla/Yosemite Sam character would've definitely worked better than Daffy in those. Or even just good ol' Western Yosemite Sam, minus Mexican accent. I've always liked many of the Depatie/Freleng Daffy and Speedy cartoons, but I've been convinced over the years that Daffy is out of character in them, and the role should have gone to Sylvester or Sam. Taking them for what they are, though, I will never concede and say many of them are not funny cartoons and that they aren't perfectly entertaining. I grew up with them as part of the Looney Tunes 'universe', and just because they changed Daffy to make him a real jerk doesn't make the cartoons bad. But they didn't HAVE to change Daffy, I agree on that. They'd be even better if they'd used Sam or Sylvester, particularly in "Assault and Peppered", "Snow Excuse" or "Mexican Mousepiece". And NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, could have helped Alex Lovy's take on the series. The villain might as well have been a block of wood for all I care. :speedy: :daffy:

Clampett's use of Bugs in "What's Cooking, Doc?" could have been remade almost scene-for-scene in the 1950 by Chuck Jones using Daffy in the same role.

Well, there have been many cartoons with royalty characters who were kind of rough to be royalty. for example, the king in Wackos Wish was evil. Yosimite Sam was royalty in From Hare To Heir. Also, I have read a comment in a thread somewhere on this message board that says that in the Scarlett Pumpernickle, the casting could be seen as daffy and the warner brothers producer picturing roles for other characters, so it would be okay for some characters to act out of character.

And it is odd to see Porky as the hunter

Actually, it is not really odd to see porky as a hunter, just as a hunter in bugs bunny cartoons. Porky has been a hunter many times before, mainly for Daffy Duck (porkys duck hunt, daffy duck hunt, etc.).

I've always thought that Daffy's role in "The Upstanding Sitter" could of been done better if it was Sylvester or Porky instead of Daffy. Also "Rabbit Feat" could of pretty much of used Daffy instead of Bugs and in the two cartoons were Elmer Fudd is voiced by Hal Smith, Porky could of used instead.

Daffy could've replaced Bugs in Falling Hare (the one with the Gremlin)

you know, I was recently thinking that if the gremlin was a regular character, he could have worked fine with Daffy Duck, as well as Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, and Marvin The Martian.

While not LT, I have thought there were a number of Woody Woodpecker and Popeye shorts where the writers put these two in stories that seemed more like Donald Duck plots, just with wilder gags than Disney would go with (Woody trying to sleep on a folding table, Popeye building a house and being plauged by termites...).:woody: :sailor: :donald:
