Boomerang Invites Young Viewers to Choose Their Favorite Color in September “Favorite Color Fridays” to Pay Tribute to Classic Cartoon Characters of a Particular Hue

Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s 24-hour commercial-free classic animation network, invites its youngest viewers to pull out their crayon boxes and pick favorite coordinating shades to help celebrate “Favorite Color Fridays,” a September programming tribute to cartoon characters that share a similar hue in the rainbow. Every Friday during the month, Boomerang will present a 24-hour marathon salute, 8 a.m. to 8 a.m., to one or more color-coordinated cast members from the Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. animation libraries.
“Since many of our kid viewers are preschoolers or kindergarteners, we wanted to create a special event that would inspire them to come back every Friday to see what color would be featured that day,” said Mark Norman, senior vice president and general manager of Boomerang. “It also gives them the opportunity to spend a day giggling with these warm, soft characters, becoming as familiar with them as their parents did a generation ago. It’s very simple and straight-forward—and a lot of fun.”

The September salute kicks off as follows:
Friday, Sept. 3—blue takes center stage, presenting that noble-hearted, slow-talking, Southern-accented bloodhound, Huckleberry Hound, and a colony of little blue people only three apples tall who make their homes in mushrooms, The Smurfs.

Friday, Sept. 10—morning dawns with yellow in the spotlight, revealing that New York City leader of Broadway alley cats, Top Cat, the clever canary Tweety and his adventures outwitting the bird-hungry cat, Sylvester, and the innocent dwarf duckling Yakky Doodle, who’s protected from life’s dangers by his bulldog friend, Chopper.

Friday, Sept. 17—the day heralds the royal shade of purple, showcasing such animated favorites as the time-traveling hippo, Peter Potamus, the gargantuan-sized gorilla with the equally big heart, Grape Ape, and the land-lovin’, drum playin’ eight-armed sea-creature, Squiddly Diddly.

Friday, Sept. 24—the month closes with an anything-but-somber brown theme, featuring the irrepressible if insatiable Yogi Bear, another amiable, fun-loving friend to all children, Magilla Gorilla, and the naïve, bewhiskered mouse with the squeaky voice, Sniffles.

"Favorite Color Fridays" sounds like such an embarrasing stunt that I wouldn't be surprised if they try to hurry along to the preschool channel conversion after the last "Favorite Color Friday" is over...
