I remember back when I was growig up, I used to love the TV special called "Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue". That special has been on for 15 years. It was about where the characters from the cartoon show helping a young girl free from the grip of drugs. It was sorta like a half-hour Public Service Announcement featuring the cast of many of its Saturday morning shows featuring guests appearences by Bugs Bunny :bugs2: and Daffy Duck :daffy:. It was a one-time special from way back in 1990. McDonald's used to promote the special. It was sorta like a PSA type show. if you want to read the synopsis from the special, here it is taken from X-Entertanment's website:

I remember it fairly well (in fact I have a pre-recorded tape of it:) ). My main interest in it was for the great Warners characters participation and the notion of them being on with other studios characters (shades of "Daffy Duck and Porky Pig Meet The Groovie Ghoulies"!!!:D ).
The other thing that was of historical interest was that it was the first time that a single non-news program aired on ALL the broadcast networks simultaneously!!! (Now that WAS weird flipping from channel to channel and seeing the same cartoon:bugs2: :daffy: .

I remember it. In my 2nd grade class, my teacher showed the video. Now, being young, and I didn't pay attention, I had NO idea what was up. All I remembered was that many cartoon characters appeared in it. But I later knew the meaning of it.
Didn't they stopped airing the special? Because Garfield was in it and they didn't get Jim Davis' permission to use it?

A noble idea and purpose, yes, but on the other hand ... who was left to rescue the Cartoon All-Stars later? ;)
George W. as the "And who loves Saturday morning talking heads, anyway?" Geezil

If memory serves, wasn't this the first project utilizing LT characters after Mel Blanc's death? I know Jeff Bergman voiced Bugs and Daffy, and around that time he did an interview on NPR promoting the show. At the time, he was being billed as the heir apparent to Mel though, of course, WB decided to utilize several voice artists for various projects.

Has anybody noticed that on the video cover, Michaelangelo is the only cartoon character featured in this special who did not appear on the cover?

i remember this. It is, of course, fairly dated by today's standards, what with all the 1980s era cartoon characters in it (The Muppet Babies, the Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Michelangelo, Slimer, and most notably, ALF). But it still has a pretty good message. I remember watching it in my 3rd grade health class, and though I already knew about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, I was still fixated on it due to the myriad of cartoon stars in it. And from what I recall, it was Jeff Bergman as Bugs and Daffy, and he did a good job on both voices ( especially the delivery on my two favorite lines from the special "Okay, you win, you got me dead to rights! I'm not a cop, I'm a rabbit...but just because I got long ears, it doesn't mean I ain't got nothin' in between 'em!" and "Look, doc, this is the past, and the past is always in black-and-white, got it?"). It was nice that they were able to insert some of Bugs and Daffy's classic-style humor into a show with such a serious point to it.

I missed this special when it first aired. I eventually got it on Ebay after learning ALF was in it (I saw the Odyssey re-runs). I could care less about how dated it is. But I had a hard time considering whether it was trying to be funny or serious. It had problems. Now, thanks to this special, I understand the meaning of this special.
And I think it was Jeff Bergmen doing :bugs2: and :daffy: . Wow, those two did a lot of stuff in 1990 (this thing, Gremlins 2, Box-Office Bunny, etc.)... ;)

This special was also the first time people got to see Looney Tunes characters animated by a Pacific rim subcontracing company (Wang Film). We'd get to see more foreign-animated :bugs2: and :daffy: a few months later with the debut of Tiny Toons - some good, some great, some downright awful. ^^;
