It has come to my attention that Congress wants to eliminate the funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (http://news.yahoo.com/s/washpost/public_broadcasting_targeted_by_house) ... which would mean the end of PBS (Sesame Street included) and NPR.
To help prevent a big loss like this, here's what we can do about it:
Write to our senators (http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm)
Write to our state representatives (http://www.house.gov/writerep/)
Sign this petition (http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting/)
Let's show them how much we care about independent media.

That's sometime the same case in Quebec with the end (rumor) of Tele-Quebec (a channel like PBS, but mostly with break commercials)

Congress cutting funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would not mean the end of PBS and NPR (and PRI and APR).
The vast majority of U.S. public broadcasters' money comes from donations from individuals and corporations. If this bill passes, all it means is they'll have to beg us more often.

Right, this is what you're reminded before each show (something like "Made possible by viewers like you...")
I can only speculate though why Congress wants to cut funding:confused:

It seems as though we go through something like this every couple of years and Congress steps in at the 11th hour and restores the funding. They do the same thing with Amtrak (although Amtrak is less deserving of the funds than public broadcasting).
Fight a war or provide high-quality television and radio...the choice is clear...
