Is the Gene Diecth era was when they made more cartoons featuring tom and jerry as friends? cause if it was , it sucked (with some very good expections). I chose the early HB era.

No. That was the later HB era. I think they may have also been friends during the Filmation era. The Gene Deitch era was when the cartoons were animated poorly and cheaply in Czechoslovakia. This was during the early 60's. One that stays in my mind is DOWN AND OUTING, which features Tom and his abusive, short-tempered owner going on a fishing trip. Jerry tags along and causes some trouble, which gets Tom beaten up by his owner.
BTW, I voted the early HB era of course.

OH! okay thanks, I actually like those ones, remember that one about Dicky Moe? heh. But why was those cartoons produced in the old soviet republic?
I also voted for the early HB ones.

I voted for early Hanna-Barbera. These have the best comic timing.
But I don't think the Gene Deitch cartoons are as bad as some people say they are.

I voted for the early Hanna-Barbera era. Tom and Jerry have never fully recovered since the end of this era!:(

Yeah. Early Hanna-Barbera, the real Tom and Jerry. There are some good cartoons by other animators in other 'eras', but they don't really 'define' Tom and Jerry. If someone asked me to show them the best Tom and Jerry cartoons, I don't think I'd even look at the Deitch or Jones films, and the TV stuff? Forget it!

there is only the hanna barbera era for me,the characters were casted in some of the greatest cartoons of all time, with some of the best animation ever made, wonderful music score by scott bradley and great voice characterizations(as L.Randolph for mommy two shoes, billy bletcher/daws butler for spike, red coffee for the little duckling...)

That was because the MGM bean counters decided around 1960 to do what we now know was a very prophetic thing -- outsource their work overseas to slash the budget. (Evidently they later came to regret that for whatever reason; so, Chuck Jones...)
(Edit: I too voted for early HB.)
