What's the difference between Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies? For what I know, Merrie Melodies were originally created to promote songs of Warner Brothers's library, but post 1948 for me Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies hasn't differences...

What about Cinecolor? What's the difference between Technicolor and Cinecolor?

Basically, Technicolor is more expensive and employs all three colors of the spectrum (red, blue, and green), whereas Cinecolor is cheaper and only employs two colors (red and blue). For this reason, cartoons like "Honeymoon Hotel" and "Beauty and the Beast" have very little green in them.

I noticed Merrie Melodies shorts do tend to be a bit darker and more complex than Looney Tunes shorts. Admittedly, I always thought Long-Haired Hare, Water Water Every Hare, and The Wearing Of The Grin were better suited for the Merrie Melodies series than the Looney Tunes series.

The first two color shorts by Warners, "Honeymoon Hotel" and "Beuaty and the Beast" were done in Cinecolor, which used the red and blue images. The color MM done between late 1934 through early 1936 were in two-strip Technicolor, which used only the red and green images. Given the choice between the two options, Cinecolor was the better one for cartoons, and the Cinecolor shorts made during the 1940s ajdusted for the problem better than the earlier shorts did.

Warner Bros. did come up with theit own color processing system in the 1950s -- WarnerColor -- but unlike MGM, which used its Metrocolor process on its last series of Tom & Jerry cartoons, Warners never applied its color process to any of its cartoons.

Prior to 1942, there was a difference between the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts. Originally, The Merrie Melodies were like music videos pluggin songs that were owned by the music publishing companies that were aquired by Warner's (they had to have at least one chorus of that song in each MM). Later, the MM's were made in color while the LT's remained in B&W. After 1942, when the first LT in color was produced, there was very little difference between them.
As for Technicolor vs. Cinecolor, Technicolor was a 3 strip system while Cinecolor was a 2 strip system that employed the colors red and blue. Cine colro was the most successful of the 2 strip systems, and when given the proper handling, could produce results that could rival Technicolor's, Besides Cinecolor was cheaper, only costing 47c a foot more than B&W film while Technicolor cost three times as much.

I never seen a Merrie Melodie of '30s in Cinecolor, I have seen a Merrie Melodie of 1949 in Cinecolor but....hmmm....maybe it was in Technicolor... because colours are not red or blue.
Can someone post some images of Merrie Melodie in Cinecolor?
