http://dismuke.net/musicfiles/howmusic/themerrygoroundbrokedown.ram This is the pre Looney Tunes theme song from the early 1930's. Its a lot different then the one Warner Bros used. It sort of gets stuck in your head

That's pretty good. It really is a good choice for the LT theme as it's extremely silly.

Now that was just cool. BTW, does anybody have the actual lyrics for The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down?

Oh, the Merry-Go-Round broke down
And we went round and round
Each time t'would miss, we'd steal a kiss
And the Merry-Go-Round went
"Um-pah-pah, um-pah-pah
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah-pah!'
Oh, the Merry-Go-Round broke down
And it made the darndest sound,
The lights went low, we both said "Oh!"
And the Merry-Go-Round went
"Um-pah-pah, um-pah-pah
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah-pah!'
Oh what fun - a wonderful time
Finding love for only a dime.
Oh, the Merry-Go-Round broke down
But you don't see me frown
Things turned out fine and now she's mine -
Cause the the Merry-Go-Round went
"Um-pah-pah, um-pah-pah
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah-pah!"
Oh, the Merry-Go-Round broke down.
mmm...donuts

The Merry-Go-Round broke down was a popular dance tune that was on the Hit Parade in the 1930s, and was performed by others besides Eddie Duchin. It seems that Scheslenger or Warners acquired the rights to the song in the late 30s and it became the theme song around 1938 when Clampett transformed Porky Pig into the first Warmer Brothers cartoon star. Now, who cna name the cartoon where Daffy Duck sings the lyrics?:ham:

"The Merrie Go Round Broke Down" was first heard in a Warner Bros. short, ironically, in a Merrie Melody cartoon -- Freleng's "Sweet Sioux", during a scene where the attacking Indians circle a covered wagon and -- of course -- turn into a merrie-go-rorund ride. The cartoon was released in July 1937 and Carl Stalling immediately fell in love with the music, using it a month later in "Get Rich Quick Porky" when Gabby Goat rides the jackhammer into the ground, and again in the following Looney Tune, "Porky's Garden" as the background music for the County Fair. By the time the Looney Tune that followed that one came out, "Rover's Rival," Stalling had made the song the official opening and closing theme for the entire series.

That was also when the animators finally decided to get rid of the "old Porky" character drawing in the Looney Tunes openings and replace it with the "new Porky." I always thought it was a little odd seeing those "older openings" in cartoons like Porky's Garden and Porky's Super Service.

Thanks for the song, Gilligan Fanati. This song was before it became the "Looney Tunes" theme. I just found this picture of the original 78 record of Eddy Duchin's "Merry-Go-Round Broke Down". Here it is.
