Hit or miss for the Depatie/Freleng cartoon "It's Nice to Have a Mouse Around the House" made in 1965 :daffy: :speedy:

Well, call me crazy but, believe it or not, I rate this one a hit. This is one of the only Daffy/Speedy cartoons that actually works out well. The gags are funny and well-timed and some of the animation is surprisingly good for a 1960's cartoon (I love the expression on Daffy's face after he spreads glue outside Speedy's mousehole). Like I said, a hit for being one of the few well-made 1960's cartoons.

I voted hit too. I watched by RealVideo yesterday night in original format (and not in time-compression) by a website and that's funny and very worked :speedy:

I also voted it a hit. There were some pretty good gags in the cartoon, and it was nice to see an honest to God reason behind Daffy chasing Speedy (now why couldn't WB have done this in some of the later Daffy/Speedy shorts?). Some pretty lines lines of dialogue though.

BTW, The Astroduck had some of the funniest facial expressions of any Daffy Duck cartoon IMO. That look on his face when he peaks out behind the wall to drop that grenade into Speedy's mouse hole was priceless. :daffy:

I guess I'll raise the first dissenting vote....in principal, I dislike the pairing of Daffy & Speedy..secondly, the art on all those cartoons is atrocious. If there are any gags underneath those two overlays, I woudn't care anyway.

I liked it. I have not seen it in a while but I remember it being ok

Like most mid/late 60's cartoons, this one is a hit only when compared to other 1960's cartoons. It's one of the best Daffy and Speedy pairings, but falls short when compared to even the most average cartoons of the 40's and 50's.

I agree with Jack, and I voted it a miss.

If it had only been a one-shot pairing of Daffy and Speedy, it would probably be accepted better, since unlike most of the other Daffy-Speedy shorts, Daffy's anger slowly builds here instead of having him fuming from the start of the cartoon, and it has a plot line that explains why a duck would be chasing a mouse ("A Taste of Catnip" is the only other cartoon that actually tries to explain that pairing, which sounds like some of the weird match-ups Jones and Maltese were fooling around with before they came up with the Road Runner and the Coyote).

However, the ending of the cartoon is still pretty week -- as if they just reached their footage limit and decided that was all, folks -- so I'd say it's a miss.

IMDb user comments for It's Nice to Have a Mouse Around the House (1965) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059322/usercomments)

I think the comment made by Rob Reynolds on this cartoon sums it up quite well.

Hit. A well-paced cartoon, and a good way to let Daffy take over the mouse chase from Sylvester (although I suspect that Friz had words with the folks who scheduled Cats and Bruises for release two weeks later). Some of Daffy's expressions are better than anything that Bob, Irv, Rudy or Alex would craft over the next few years. The film as a whole is handsome for a post-1964 LT.
