I'm working on an exhibit for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Museum and Library. I'm trying to find WWII era cartoons that feature FDR in likeness or voice.

So far I know of two: "Hell-Bent for Election" by and "Aviation Vacation" (apparently has FDR on Mt. Rushmore).

Anyone know of any others?

That's Theodore Roosevelt, not Franklin! (Sigh) The knowledge of history today!

It's too early for WWII, but how about a shot of FDR on the side of a drum (waving a mug of beer)?

Roosevelt also appears in WORLD'S AFFAIR, a Scrappy cartoon from 1933.

Aside from FDR, there are also a few other classic cartoons that feature the rest of the "Big Three" (Stalin in RUSSIAN RHAPSODY (obviously) and HERR MEETS HARE and Churchill in BROTHER BRAT).

The Simpsons episode "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie", FDR is seen in the World War 2 Itchy and Scratchy short. Apparently he was put in there because John Swartzwelder (the writer) said that you never see FDR in any cartoons from the second world war.

Thanks for the leads.

I love the screenshot of FDR with the beer mug. Too bad its too early. Its interesting that FDR appeared so few times, given his 4 terms and his friendship with Harry Warner. I guess maybe friends dont let friends appear in cartoons.

I just checked out the forums on Big Cartoon Database. Someone else had posted this same topic there three days ago. Strange, huh?

This is what they came up with:

The Reluctant Dragon (Walt Disney Studios, 1941): Five short animated stories are wrapped around a tour of the Disney Studios. President Roosevelt (voiced by Art Gilmore) is depicted in the "Baby Weems" segment.

Booby Hatched (Looney Tunes; Warner Bros., 1944): In the dead of winter, a frantic mother duck has to track down her missing egg, Robespierre. Two of the other four hatchlings are named Franklin and Eleanor.

A Jolly Good Fala (Merrie Melodies; Warner Bros.): Work on this short, directed by Bob Clampett, began in April 1945. This Looney Tune was scrapped because it focused on Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog Fala. As Roosevelt died suddenly during the development of this cartoon, it was thought in poor taste to continue. This would have been Stan Freberg's first voice role in a cartoon (he was to impersonate FDR).

Wild Barts Can't Be Broken (The Simpsons; Film Roman Productions, 1999): After the Isotopes win a championship game, Homer, Barney, Lenny and Carl go on a drunken binge and wind up vandalizing the elementary school. With no suspects, Chief Wiggum assumes it was the children, so he imposes a curfew. When a new horror movie opens, Bart, Lisa and the rest of the kids decide to break curfew to see it, but they get busted. The kids fight back by broadcasting their parents' secrets. FDR is heard in archival footage.

The Prime Minister Has No Clothes (Time Squad; Cartoon Network Studios, 2001): Winston Churchill, the prime minister who leads England through World War II, is also leading everyone into a state of nakedness! Also shown are FDR and Joe Stalin. Darren Norris voices the Big Three.

There was another Simpsons episode which showed a brief clip of Krusty portraying FDR (badly) on stage. He started walking around lamenting about the depression but then quickly sat down and said "Oh ya right! I'm crippled."

If anyone can come up with others, I'll be impressed...
