I'm not too fond of Sniffles (and I do admit to being a little too harsh in criticizing him), but I have to wonder if the character from "An American Tail" was sort of modelled off Sniffles. I know Sniffles predates Feivel by roughly 50 years, but I see some similarities between the two. Has anyone else noticed this?

I never realized that before, but you're right.

Hmmm... considering that old man Spielberg is a Looney Tunes fan (or so I was told), Fivel might have been modeled after Sniffles- even the outfits are similar.

(and in a mild twist, is it just me or is there a suspicious number of coincidences between Chip and Dale, and the Goofy Gophers?)

I also mentioned once a long time ago that I think Pinky and the Brain might be loosely based on Hubie and Bertie.

Although there is a similarity in drawing style, there are many fundamental and subtle differences between Sniffles and Fivel. For one, the head on Fivel is larger compared to the body. The ears are larger, and there are more jagged hair indication areas on Fivel than on Sniffles.

On another note, compare SHREK with the aliens from POPEYE, THE ACE OF SPACE. Aside from SHREK being "beefier," it is exactly the same design right down to the littel trumpet ears and the green skin.
