I never realized there was such a book. Where did you hear about it?
It was printed over in Europe (I forget where), but it's black-and-white xeroxes of all the non-stories Carl Barks did for OUR GANG, NEW FUNNIES, and the "Porky of the Mounties".
Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a bootleg book, as it was published by arrangement with the foreign Warner, MGM, and Lantz licenses (why they still used such crappy copies is beyond me...).

I got my copy on ebay. The quality of the book is not great, but it's certainly better than nothing.

It's simply called BARKS BEAR BOOK. And yes, it is in English.

Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a bootleg book, as it was published by arrangement with the foreign Warner, MGM, and Lantz licenses (why they still used such crappy copies is beyond me...).To the best of my knowledge, the makers of the book were unaware that black and white line art stats still survived at some of the comics' local European publishers (or at Western in the case of the Porky story, though Western's holdings may have since been destroyed). Either that, or they were worried about getting their licenses revoked if the local European publishers found out about the project and perceived it as competition.
DC later published this Looney Tunes collection (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1563894580/sr=8-1/qid=1143558914/ref=sr_1_1/102-7200484-5848103?%5Fencoding=UTF8) which included a good version of the Barks Porky story. Meanwhile, line art elements survive in Europe on the Barks MGM comics, some of which continue to be reprinted there to this day. (I'm not sure about the Andy Panda story. I know a licensee that has preserved Lantz comics stats dating back to the mid-1940s, but I'm not sure whether the holdings include Barks' story in particular.)

I have a copy of this particular book (unfortunately) I found it used somewhere, I don't recall how much I paid for it, but it wasn't cheap. I can't say that I'm impressed by the contents, in terms of either reproduction or stories...Barks did so much better with the Ducks...these stories just seem generic, in comparison (either that, or I'm just not a fan of these characters).
A few Barney Bear and Benny Burro stories by Barks were reprinted by Harvey in the early 90īs on their short-lived "Tom and Jerry" comic book.
