The Disney Database (http://www.disneydatabase.com/news_more.php?id=46) has a preliminary look at the disc art for two of the upcoming Walt Disney Treasures - Wave 4 releases, Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume II (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=B0002S64UA/theunofficlooneyA/) and The Complete Pluto Volume I (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=B0002S64UU/theunofficlooneyA/) (note that the Pluto disc art does not confirm the "1930 - 1947" subtitle that is found on the released cover art image). The disc art for The Mickey Mouse Club - Week One (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=B0002S64UK/theunofficlooneyA/) is not yet available. All three 2-disc DVD sets are slated for release on December 7th, 2004.

Hmm, the art on the second Pluto disc has a pose from "Private Pluto". I hope this doesn't lend credence to the idea of double-dipping on Disney's part!

The contents for the Mickey in B&W Volume 2 set look great, but I'm not really looking forward to enduring Leonard's introductions to twelve "From the Vault" shorts combined on the Pluto and Mickey sets. If a cartoon has a two-second blackface gag, it doesn't need an annoying one-minute introduction to draw attention to it... :shame:

Well, I'd rather see a one-minute introduction than not see the cartoon at all.

Well, I'd rather see a one-minute introduction than not see the cartoon at all.I completely understand the necessity of introductions for cartoons like "Trader Mickey" or "Mickey's Mellerdrammer," but when it comes to a 2-second blackface gag I don't think we need Leonard rambling on for a few minutes about how stupid we were forty years ago. That doesn't apologize for the little blackface gag; it draws attention to it, especially when you put it in a "From the Vault" section (probably with introductions we can't skip or fast-forward, like on the "On the Front Lines" set). I'm glad that we're getting the cartoons uncut; I just think it's stupid to make little blackface gags seem offensive when they're not (reminds me of the incredibly useless introduction to "Symphony Hour" on the last Mickey set where Leonard was forced to apologize for Pete's Italian accent).

You may well be annoyed by Maltin having to do intros to these types of gags, but unfortunately if you think about it there are people out there who go over these things with magnifying glasses just looking for that kind of thing just so that they can come back and publicly diss Disney (or whoever) about it. Case in point, the furor about the spelling out of "sex" in the water in that scene in "The Lion King." Come on, how hard did they have to be looking for that?? Good grief. I'd still rather have Maltin's introductions rather than not have the cartoon, especially if it shuts up the idiots.

Actually, the Lion King is an interesting example because usually Disney will allow content in their modern movies and shows that are immediately edited out from the classic shorts. I believe that "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" had a character that smoked, and some of the programs on the Disney Channel are far from Disney's supposedly "family-friendly" philosophy. The Lion King is a special case scenario and usually Disney will not only leave their modern stuff alone, but single out anything even possibly risque in the classic shorts. So again, the need of an introduction for a 2-second blackface gag is blown out of proportion.

The cartoons on the Mickey Mouse Club DVD are:
Day 1: Pueblo Pluto
Day 2: Mickey's Kangaroo
Day 3: Mickey's Service Station
Day 4: Wise Little Hen
Day 5: Two-Gun Mickey
This technically isn't 'double-dipping' since they're using the original episodes' contents, but this pretty much put the cap on me wanting to get the set...
