From ToonZone:
The Mr. Magoo Show - The Complete Collection DVD which was originally scheduled for Febuary 8th has been taken off the schedule according to TVShowsOnDVD (http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2784). Sony Music has given no other release date or if it will even be released at all.
I guess Roger Ramjet is the only classic character we'll get on the 8th of Febuary. :magoo:

I just got word from Classic Media that Magoo was pushed back to Spring 2006. No explaination why. But at least it is a date.

I wouldn't be on bit surprised that Sony pulled the release at the last minute, due to the cartoons that feature "Charlie".I can understand them(Sony) for pulling the collection at the last minute, but to re-schedule the release for springtime 2006?That's redicilous.

Classic Media has very good intentions to deliver with this and while I'm not sure as to the validity for the 2006 date, I can say that it is just a temporary postponement and the reason has absolutey nothing to do with content or controversial subject matter, rather better marketing and promotion as they want to gear this release up to the public and make sure that it gets the recognition deserved. I wont go into specifics but you can see the post I made at the Home Theatre Forum under the respective topic in the Television forum, here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=216960 - as "MarcoBiscotti" for further details. I will have a sampler of the finnished production in a few days and will post a quick review and overview of what's to come but I can guarantee you all that Classic Media is not a studio to overlook! They hold very high regard towards their animated properties and treat them all with the respect deserved and not as the usual "kiddie fare" approach that so many other companies perceive. They are extremely aware and all I can say is that while it's dissapointing that we'll have to wait a few months more to own this set, I think it's the right decision and fully support CM's push to garner more hype for Magoo. It's well deserved. Also, keep your eyes open for a complete Dick Tracy Cartoon Show Collection to surface in the not-too-distant future. ;)

In terms of the classic cartoon holdings that Classic Media owns, there is another classic cartoon series that truly "deserves" to see the light of day on home video and that's none other than the famous "HARVEYTOONS" other wise known as the Famous Studios/Paramount cartoons.

Does Classic Media have any kind of plans to release a collectors dvd set of this great animated series? CM should put a collection like this, out to the public...

I'm just waiting for Classic Media to finish up releasing all the Rocky and Bullwinkle episodes (although it looks like that won't happen until August).

Nelson, CM does have plans to release a number of Baby Huey shorts in compilation discs but I'm not sure as to the format in which they plan to delve in their Harveytoon series. You could always send an email to their customer service dept. to inquire, they're extremely helpful and enthusiastic and as I just posted at HTF, the studio gradually plans to release ALL of their library content over the next few years so if you see a series/episode under their license, it will eventually be mastered to DVD. As for how long we'll have to wait for Magoo, I can't say for sure but I would expect to see it before 2006. I'll keep everyone updated as I myself learn more but right now I don't even think the studio could tell you exactly. Their concern is on trying to push this release into the spotlight and garner more attention so that it does well when it eventually hits retail shelves. I'm sure we have a few months wait at the very least but with the sets already having gone through full production and awaiting distribution, I wouldn't expect it to be too long. In the meanwhile, there's many other great cartoons/films being released to keep us all busy until these finally street. It's really not that terrible.

MF TOON , thanks for providing the great info and regarding the Magoo situation, I'm not mad or upset about anything, but I would just find it strange that Sony would release the collection a year later, but if it comes out in a few months it wouldn't hurt at all.So it seems that Classic Media plans to release a lot of great stuff this year and that would be perfect.

I would prefer Noveltoon boxsets. :audrey:

Senbei, I believe the Noveltoons are officially owned by Republic and it is only the retitled Harveytoons that Classic Media has access to. This would include a number of Casper/Wendy, Baby Huey, Herman & Katnip, Buzzy, Little Audrey and Little Lulu shorts, etc. but it's definitely not the entire catalogue. I'm guessing this is because Classic Media deals specifically in the league of vintage TV animation and due to the holding rights, not the theatrical films which reside elsewhere. That would mean that they likely only have access to the packaged episodes that Harvey sold to ABC in 1958 under the retitled Harveytoons moniker. I'm not entirely sure how this works though...

Republic(which is owned by Viacom) owns the Noveltoons from 1943 to mid 1950.Classic Media owns the post 1950 Paramount aka Harveytoon shorts up to 1962.Personally, I like the original Harveytoon opening and closing titles, which by the way, was animated by Famous Studios animation dept in New York City in 1961.While Paramount still owns the post 1962 cartooons to 1967, so that's the whole story on who owns what.I would hope that CM would use the original Harveytoons titles instead of the titles we currently see on Boomerang, cause that don't feature full credits and the music skips at the begining of the openings.

I'd personally like to see the shorts with their original Paramount titles. They all exist in perfect shape in Paramount's vaults (the Harvey package at least, since they still hold theatrical rights). Surely negotiations to get them wouldn't be too hard (since Paramount supplied Harvey with new prints of a lot of the cartoons in the 1990s).

I don't want to hijack this thread, but am I right in thinking that Paramount now owns all of their cartoons again (excluding Popeye and Superman of course), with the pre-1950 cartoons in varying states and the post-1950 cartoons in good shape?

As I type this message with my left hand, I hold in my right "The COMPLETE Mr. Magoo Show" boxset, elegantly packaged with bonus 1963 comic reprint, factory sealed and awaiting release. It's a beautiful sight. I'll try and upload some pictures over the weekend and throw together an overview of the content as soon as I get through my last final exam tomorrow afternoon. I just wanted to make sure everyone was reasonably jealous and will update and entice you further as soon as I get my digicam hooked up and can find a moment to breathe. From what I can see so far, this will definitely be worth waiting for!

Just keep us alert if Charlie is included and his voice is not redubbed for this release.
Thanks!

Nelson, Charlie is featured in all his stereotypical, politically incorrect glory and he speaking in oliginal undub recowding bloss!

P&G, no I don't work for Classic Media... they just practice exceptional consumer relations. ;)

Seriously, I will be contacting the person in charge of their home media productions tomorrow to thank him tremendously and offer my feedback. As I've said many times, this company really cares about it's properties and customers and knows how to treat 'em both right... and it shows!

Thanks MF TOON for providing the great news on Charlie:D

I'm actually starting to believe that the Magoo collection will come out in a few months, as why would any major company send out advance copies of any kind of a dvd collection that wouldn't be released until a year later.

Right fellas?

BTW....MF TOON, when you speak to the gentleman who works for the home media production dept, as is there any way you can get a time frame when the set will be released my friend? Thanks!;)

MF TOON

I'll see what I can do for you Nelson. ;)

As for me recieving an advanced copy... I think it was sent on an individual basis and I'd be surprised to find out that many others, if anyone outside of the company, has this right now. I've been in contact with some exceptional people at Classic Media, exchanging emails for months now in regards to their past and future productions, and through a very generous gesture, I guess they decided to send me this exclusive copy of the set to tide me over until the official release date. I will in turn remain in contact, providing feedback and opinion. Therefore I can't negate any possibilities that it might take a year to resurface, unfortunately. But... the fact that I'm watching the set as I type this is promising enough that we WILL eventually see it on store shelves, I'm betting on sooner than later.

and I'm still just as excited!

Guys, just to clarify, as I haven't gotten through the entire set yet (obviously)...

I just spoke with the fellow at Classic Media who I've been in contact with for the past little while, and was informed that there are approx. 7 "Charlie" episodes in the set... but 1 or 2 at the end of the list DO have the new voiceovers. I haven't gotten past the first disc yet so I wouldn't have known. Unfortunately the original dialogue tracks could not be found for these episodes. It should be noted though, that the folks at Classic Media really put an effort into locating all but you'll really appreciate the difference when you hear the episodes once the set finally surfaces. The person who is in charge of the Magoo production is a fan and purist as well, and has stated that he would rather have a non-PC product for the collectors out there as it was originally done than to do what was done in the 90s to the sound track. So while the majority of the language tracks have been restored to their original, there were a few exceptions in which it fell out of their hands. Rest assured however, that Classic Media does make a point with all current and future releases (and I have word on some exciting possibilities!) to avoid censorship wherever possible.

On another high note, it looks as though we're likely to have a re-release date sooner than expected and I'll be sure to keep you guys posted! I was planning on sending a review in to DVDToons.com this weekend however I've been asked to wait for the new date as there might be some other details to accompany it (positive ones at that!)...

This is not the last of Mr. Magoo that we'll be seeing from Classic Media anytime soon, read into that as you will and perhaps keep an eye out for more goodies from UPA's television library, maybe even tune into your wrist watches for updates! ;)

Nelson

So basically Charlie does speak with his original voice in five(out of seven) cartoons with the other two dubbed, as I can live with that. But just reading your last post MF TOON this does sound very positive and can't wait to see this collection.Just the way the rep from Classic media stated, it sounds like we will see a release in the coming months?:magoo:

But we need a definative Harveytoons deluxe dvd collectors set and I hope that has crossed the minds over at Classic Media.:buzzy: :huey: :audrey:

That sounds great MF Toon! I am holding out hope for a complete "Famous Adventures Of Mr. Magoo" set at some point..I mentioned at Termite Terrace Trading Post a while back that I managed to get about half of these episodes taped off USA Network in the early 1990's. Looking forward to maybe "Dick Tracy" as well?

Of course nothing is solidified with any company until the studio is fixed into development stages... but there is also another Magoo television special that has yet to see release. hint, hint.

Please realize that I'm only sharing this information with you guys in the GAC community as we're all enthusiastic about the possibilities and have known each other for quite some time, back to the early ToonZone days, but this isn't really something I would want to make public outside of this forum as it is not my place to do so. This could all be some time away, if even. But at this point, it's all being considered and possibly even planned so stay tuned.

That's that.

Sorry, I have no further news regarding release though I did post some neat pictures of the packaging a couple of months back if you do a forum search.

Send an email to Classic Media and ask them directly. I'm sure they'll try to give you as accurate a time frame as possible. They have excellent customer service from my experience.
