Here's a Heads-Up For you:

Next Thursday, (Jan 6) at 6;00 AM , Turner Classic Movies a series of World War II training films produced by the First Motion Picture Unit. The titles are:

Winning Your Wings. Thsi is the first film produced by the FMPU. It's a recruitment picture that stars Jimmy Stewart.
First Motion Picture Unit. A documentary on the FMPU.
Recognition Of the Japanese Zero. The title's kinda self-explanatory here.
Resisting Enemy Interrogation. Believe it or not, this one is feature length.

I don't know if there's is any animation in any of these, but they're still worth watching.

And what happened to There's No Antacid in Foxholes, the original training film about the proper use of Spam on the front lines?

(No, I haven't tapped the first New Year's Eve keg yet. Really!!)

(And in the holiday spirit, I heartily apologize to the folks at Hormel, who also make or license many other fine food products ... some even suitable for vegetarians ... that have no relation to Spam whatsoever.)

(OK, NOW cue the Monty Python disc!)

Didn't UPA start out making WWII training films?
Most of the animation houses were making training films for the armed services during WWII. Disney had the lion's share of the business, but the others contributed too. Here's just a sample:

Disney: Besides the films now seen in Disney On the Front Lines DVD, There was also the WARP and WEFT series for the Navy air Force.
Warner Brothers: Besides the Pvt. SNAFU and Seaman Hook series there was also a series produced for the submarine service.
Walter Lantz: The pilot episode for Seaman Hook. Also one film on dental hygene.
MGM: A series of films for the Army-Navy pictorial under the title of A Few Quick Facts.
Industrial Films Inc. (aka UPA) Two Pvt. SNAFU shorts under the Few Quick Facts banner. Also various training films.
Hugh Harman Prods.: The Pvt. MacGillicuddy series on personal hygene and one Pvt. SNAFU short.

There were undoubtably others but I'm not aware of waht they were.
