Today, the National Film Registry announced it's annual list of 25 films that they will preserve for later generations to enjoy.

In the animation department, only one cartoon made the list this year: the 1936 Oscar-nominated short Popeye Meets Sinbad the Sailor.

Considering this is Popeye's 75's anniversary, it's definitely a treat to see one of his most popular shorts make the National Film Registry list. :sailor:

Another film that made the registry has some animation in it: "Duck and Cover" which was produced for U.S. Civil Defense in 1951. The film educates people, particularly children, on what to do in case an atom bomb hits. The animated parts feature a turtle. I grew up in the '60's and remember the air raid drills in school, although I don't recall seing the film then. It is freely downloadable at www.archive.org (http://www.archive.org).

It's also nice to see David Lynch's Eraserhead make the list!
