View Full Version : Hey, I gotta ask a question about the new "Grinch" DVD.

Does the new Deluxe Edition DVD of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" from this year differ in the disc's content from the 50th Anniversary Birthday Edition from 2006? Or is it the very same disc?
I'd like even the very smallest technical details on it also, if you please. Thank you.

It doesn't have the commentary by June Foray and Maurice Nobel.

It doesn't include "Horton Hears a Who!" either.

Speaking of that, is the transfer on the standalone Horton Hears a Who DVD/BR any better than the one on the Grinch DVD?

Hm.... I made a few mistakes. Maurice Noble did not do the commentary with June. It was Phil Roman.
The reason I know that now is I found a copy of the newer DVD release and discovered the commentary IS on it! My bad.

Speaking of Maurice Nobel, I sat next to him during the screening of the Jim Carey feature at The Television Academy. He was in tears seeing this, crying about how "they ruined my work." It was a rather sad and uncomfortable experience seeing this reaction. Frankly, I still prefer the original.

Let's see .. a charming cartoon with wonderful narration or a prosthetic-faced mug-fest. I know which one I'd pick.
And the studios don't learn. They're doing it to Yogi Bear and Jonny Quest. :(

You know, if one of those scripts get leaked in the internet, there's a good chance that film would either be re-written (not really a good thing) or hopefully shelved.
Anyway, back to topic, is any Jones' MGM theatrical cartoons on one of those discs?

"Ruined his work" is an understatement. It ruined not only his work but Chuck Jones', Dr. Seuss', and the entire "Grinch" folklore all in one fell swoop. I just hope the 1966 original outlasts the 2000 hack film to the end of time.

My dad told me once he likes the Jim Carrey movie better. :(

I can assure you none of Jones' MGM theatrical shorts are on any of those discs

I have not seen the transfer on the Horton Blu-Ray, but I am pretty positive that the previous edition of the Grinch DVD, which also included Horton, is the same transfer that was later released on the standalone Horton DVD.

Besides, Dr Seuss is the one who should be crying.
His is the name most regular folks associate the Grinch with.
Only animation fans no who Nobel is.
I would've been disgusted and maybe walked out.
