You need to be a D23 member which I've read on another forum costs some money.

Limited to 3000.

wow, I have all of the Treasures already but this actually looks amazing and I'd consider auctioning off older sets to upgrade to this package! I wonder if they'll source the "corrected" discs that were replaced in SS and DD. Is this a complete set of all releases and will it include the upcoming Zorro discs too? I really want to see some more photos of this package!

ps - what is d23??

D23 is an official Disney fan club that Disney started not too long ago. Sadly, the membership costs $75 (I think), so if you're not a member yet, that's gonna go into the cost for this set.

Anyways, this seems like an impulsive buy. It would be much cheaper than to try and fill the gaps in my current collection.

It's nice to know they've retained the masters for each North American disc with the same label art too. MMiLC V1 is 8 years old yet these new discs still have the old data that the originals had, that's impressive. Of course I am making assumptions here but who knows, maybe they'll correct some past errors like Clock Cleaners audio etc. etc.

And I predict that maybe they'll rerelease these titles individually in the not too distant future, perhaps with different packaging though. I'm just drooling over this, these Leonard Maltin and Dave Bossert collections are so classy.

I am a member. It does cost $75, which mostly just buys a quarterly magazine that sells for $15 retail. Very high quality publication though, and not just a huge advertisement or a bunch of Hanna Montana garbage either, its very Disney Archives oriented. Member copies have been including souvenirs. The rest of the membership I guess is the privilege of buying exclusive merchandise like this.

Anyway, yeah -- nice set. It says it includes 27 past titles, although there have apparently been 28 released??? So I'm guessing NO Zorro. All releases listed here:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/treasures.html

I have most of the animated ones, but not a lot of the others. $500 is a lot.

This is a really good buy if you missed out on the first few years of Treasures. But be forewarned: most of the non-animated content is garbage.

Lol, weeeeeeeeeeeeell now, that depends on your perspective. :D

Baby Boomers who grew up watching Spin and Marty, The Swamp Fox, Mickey Mouse Club or The Wonderful World of Disney probably have some fond memories of that stuff. This also an (expensive) opportunity to own Dr. Syn, which some people have been fuming about being unable to get for almost a year.

The Swamp FoxFor some reason that's the only treasure set not on this, along with Zorro.

Huh, well see I knew they missed one. What's up with that?

That is a treasure in itself. Unfortunately, in these times of economic woe, only the wealthy will be able to buy them.:scrooge:

You oughtta look for a Region 4 DVD of it to buy via Internet. It's the same thing, just without the tin and with 2 more languages/subtitles added.

I'm in the same boat as you are, friend. I have the complete run of Donald Duck Treasures, Pluto Treasures, Rarities, Oswald, On The Front Lines, and stuff I haven't even opened yet simply because they are volume 2 discs, and what good is the volume 2 discs if you don't have volume 1?

And I am NOT joining any kind of official Disney fan club. I'm not made of money like that. It's bad enough Di$ney wants to take money out of me just to visit their lousy theme parks, now they want me to fork over everything I own and my first born (which is ludicrous since I have not procreated, but that's not an appropriate topic of discussion for this forum) just so I can pay to be in an elite group of adults, most likely families, who've drunk the Kool-Aid and sold into the hype of this D23 experience? Well I ain't buying! I have better things to spend my money on. Like rent... and food... and carfare...

I think it's about that time I should go have my nightly glass of "STFU" Juice.

No way, man. I'm still saving up dough for better copies for my complete My Life as a Teenage Robot set (I own the series, just in crappy quality). :daffy:
....Did I just state that out loud..? Damn, I'm such a completist with everything I remotely enjoy.

Agreed.

I also enjoyed The Hardy Boys set (the Applegate Treasure was a shared delight for my generation) and the Disneyland: Secrets, Stories & Magic - containing a look at the world's premiere theme park featuring rides and attractions that have long since vanished.

IF you can handle R2 and PAL, you can get that from England and Germany (and probable France).

Anyways, so I don't get off topic on this thread, I might as well post something about the collection. I wonder what the "collectable litograph" will be...

I disagree. Some non-animated contents are full of informations about the real Disney empire and it's nice to don't just be stuck with the cartoons shorts. It's a shame today that this enterprise take the existing licences instead to created at their own. (Did someone could told me if Turner, Warner and Universal already thinkin to sued this company for stealing their characters for Roger Rabbit? Did someone have proofs if they taking it legally?)

No, Steven Spielberg personally called the companies and got them to loan their characters to Disney for the movie. So it was all done legally.

Even if it was illegal, I doubt they would say the companies the characters belong to in the end credits.

FWIW I love the Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic DVD. So no, not all the non-animation Treasures sets are garbage. But many aren't worth the purchase if you have no nostalgic attachment to Walt's live action series.

Well, that's why I said "most." I like some of the live-action Disney stuff (almost all of which isn't on a Treasures set). But I agree with your assessment. The nostalgia factor is why you can still get almost any of the live-action sets at retail price still.

In fact, there was some interesting arrangements that required Bugs to have exactly the same screen time as Micky Mouse.

Ditto for Donald & Daffy.

(And they call live action movie stars egotists!)

That's what I'm thinking. I already shelled out an outrageous amount of money for the OOP "Ultimate Disney Treasure Chest" a couple of years ago, which included the first two waves or so. That gave me an extra MM BW VOL 1 as well because I'd already bought that as a tin previously. There's only 4 more WDTs that I want anyway so unless you don't have any of the Treasures, or want this as a collector's item, I would say pass.
