Does anyone know if these terrific-looking volumes will be available in North America any time soon?

There was supposed to have been a new anthology collection of books similar to the CBL released here in North America, but I've heard very little development since it was first posted on GAC last year. It's too bad those are printed in foreign language because they look really fantastic...

ps - David Gerstein would be the one to ask about this.
apparently the first volume of a Don Rosa collection is up for pre-order on amazon. personally, Im not too crazy about the presentation, I think the link to the books posted above wouldve been way more classy had they followed that template. these are being released by Gemstone.

David Gerstein, if you're reading, can you please shine some insight on this?
I tried to PM you, but your inbox is full. :felix:

If these books feature the original, unexpurgated versions of Barks' stories, rest assured that they'll never see the light of day in US editions. Disney's up-tightness had a deleterious effect on the CARL BARKS LIBRARY of the 1980s... some dozen stories were mutilated due to "objectionable material;" Disney then censored more stories when they appeared in the Gladstone comics.
Thank goodness for the digital scanners, and for free digital downloads of the Barks comics. That's the only way us 'poor folks' can see the stories as they originally appeared.

something aimed at collectors with a warning fom Leonard Maltin?

Frank is right - the list of changes can be found here:

Though admittedly, these library sets are my favorite way to read Barks's stories. I managed to secure all ten sets before I went away to school two years ago and have not regretted it.

David Gerstein, if you're reading, can you please shine some insight on this?At Gemstone, we'd indeed planned to start our own edition (http://www.anobii.com/books/The_Carl_Barks_Collection_Set_1/9781603600637/01aa1e3e8e75f69f0c/) of this series—but like a lot (http://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disney-Treasures-Mickey-Valley/dp/1603600469) of other things (http://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disney-Treasures-Donald-Unlucky/dp/1603600981/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252371470&sr=1-1) we were planning (http://www.amazon.com/Don-Rosa-Library-1987-1988/dp/1603600647/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252371488&sr=1-1), it was ill-fated not to come out.
I have no idea why Amazon still lists all this stuff, by the way. They were supposed to remove them... and did, for awhile. But now most of them are back and I'm certain it's not because Gemstone still plans to publish them. (They couldn't, even if they had the budget for it—as the license for the comics has moved on (http://www.boom-studios.net/mickey-mouse-and-friends-297-cover-b.html).)

If only they knew.
I should hasten to add, if you're reading a censored reprint of Barks's "Darkest Africa" story, you're not looking at a completely redrawn story. That's how bad the art originally looked. Definitely one of the low points of Barks's career.

Hopefully someone will be able to do something of Barks at some point. Scans are nice, but I'd still like to be able to have a book and not have to sit at my PC to read comics.

Would Fantagraphics be able to release any Gottfredson or Barks stories?

Yeah, read a actual book is better for eyes than read a comic page from PC, i know that. :p
