My husband is trying to figure out what character he has been thinking of.... help! Of course, we cannot remember much but this is what we know:

The character is a cat. He is overweight, black and white, in a house. He has a can of sardines and he is laying in basket with his name on the side. He picks up one the fish and says: "One of these days, I'm gonna have to buy me a mousetrap!" Later in the same cartoon he is replaced by what we think is a small white kitten, the mice are running the house and at the end of the cartoon the kitten says the same thing as the other cat, "One of these days, I'm gonna have to buy me a mousetrap!" I seem to remember the kitten having a tiny voice. That's it.

Any info you can get for us would be HUGE!! I know stuff like this makes my hubby a little nuts. :)

That would be "Dodsworth". He appeared in two cartoons directed by Robert McKimson. The one you mention is "Kiddin' The Kitten" (1952). The sequel was "A Peck O' Trouble" (1953).

He was voiced by comedian Sheldon Leonard, and apparently based on him.

Both of those cartoons appear on the 4th disc of the 4th volume of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, conveniently placed one right after the other.
