Two of Jones' infamous dark, cult classics, both often associated with each other due to obviously having a similar theme (evil dog/good cat, among other things). But which would you choose as the even better cartoon? Evil wins, or "We didn't forget the gravy"? :bugs2:
Very tough decision, but I had to go with Fresh Airedale. Not sure I could elaborate why, I just think it's an even greater cartoon than Chow Hound. But it only wins by a tiny, itty bitty little nosehair.
Your choice?

I love them both, so I chose "I can't decide!" Maybe I'd give a slight edge to Chow Hound.

Fresh Airedale, for being one of the most satyrical cartoons of all times. And the ending IS satisfying, perfectly spot on what is happening in our everyday life. Chow Hound is a masterpiece too.

I have to go with Chow Hound. Fresh Airedale makes me sad when I watch it.

They're both great, but I pick Chow Hound. The theme of the cartoon is so dark and so adult.

I agree. Plus, the canine got his comeuppance in the most ironic way possible, which helps makes Chow Hound the most disturbing (and funny) out of the two.

I always laughed every time the dog said "What? No gravy?"

I'm serious. "Fresh Airdale" makes me upset because there is no justice in the end. Shep never gets his comupence-the poor cat is so sweet and lovable that it makes me sad just watching him get abused. I know that it's suppose to be an example of how some bad guys never get caught-but it just doesn't sit right with me.
"Chow Hound" is actually more because of a childhood fear and has nothing to do with the dog constantly abusing the cat. It's the ending--I was at least seven at the time and it really terrified me. Just the disturbing image of the morbidly obese dog being forcefed gravy disgusted me. I am willing however to watch it again in order to see if it still rubs me the wrong way-perhaps I will finally enjoy it... On the otherhand it does seem understandable as to why I dislike it...

I'm for "Chow Hound" too.
On Greg Ford's audio commentary on LTGC Volume 6 for "Fresh Airedale," he read that review from the movie database. I kind of agree with what it said.

Chow Hound.
What a wicked ending! How many cartoons end with torture?

Ah, no doubt about it here..."Chow Hound".
While "Fresh Airedale" came around the years with MY favorite Chuck Jones animation (also seen is "The Case of Missing Hare", "Hare Tonic", and "Fair and Worm-er") I can't bear to watch that innocent cat be beaten so much.
So despite not having the best Chuck Jones animation, it's still pretty awesome animation, and of course; "What?! No Gravy?!" That, just takes the cake. And the ultimate revenge...mu hahaha...

Chow Hound. The ending is both perfect and disturbing.
As for Fresh Airedale. Never liked it, never will. The abuse and the unjustice is intolerable to me.
