I guess I must have missed anyone on the forum posting that Warner Bros was releasing the 1988 Ruby-Spears Superman cartoon series on dvd November 3, 2009. I was on my Amazon wish list (which they have re-done), deleting the latest Super Friends dvd which I bought. First I was aware when that recommendation popped up. It's good to know, as that was a great cartoon, even though there were only 13 episodes. The opening sequence never did have the word 'Superman' lettered out, only spoken. -Craig

Personally, I prefer the later versions done by the likes of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.

STAS is definitely the ultimate Superman series of all time, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the Ruby-Spears series was. It's been sort of a lost classic, and I'm glad to see it's getting a proper release. Now WB needs to finish the other half of the 60's series, they left that hanging.
I actually like them all, from Fleischer on...well okay, except for the Superboy cartoons, and anything made lately.

Hardly "Golden Age" animation, but I'll be buying it. I seem to recall it was pretty decent.

Actually one of the VERY few Filmation cartoons I actually like is their earliest Superman from the 60s. Before the heavy rotoscoping, which I get sick of when Filmation does it, with some good/decent writing, and best of all -- the original radio show voice talents, Bud Collyer in particulr. The series pays some homage to the Fleischer series in its way and is essentially animated radio.
