Veteran Animation Producer/Director Darrell Van Citters has recently published his first book..On the making of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol..

"Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol:The Making of the First Animated Christmas Special" looks to be really nicely done..Van Citters got together with some of the surviving cast and crew to produce the book. This especially means a lot to me as I loved Magoo's Carol as a child watching it in black and white..Here is Jerry Beck's review on Cartoon Brew:

More on the book..Including sample pages:

I am hoping this book will renew interest in the special..and that Classic Media will put out an ultimate DVD set worthy of it

That is great news -- this is one of just 3 annual Xmas specials (along with Charlie Brown and Jones' "Grinch") that I try to watch every time the season rolls around. My meager budget usually doesn't allow for the purchase of new books (until they eventually turn up used at Goodwill, heh...), but I may have to make an exception in this case!

I don't know that I'd expect an "ultimate" DVD set from "Magoo's Christmas Carol" any time soon as they do keep this one in release. I see it in the stores every Christmas.

The edition I got includes Gerald McBoing Boing & Magoo short cartoons and came packaged with a comic book adaptation of the film - so that was pretty good bang for the buck.

Not only is "Magoo's Christmas Carol" my favorite animated Christmas special (edging out Jones/Karloff's "Grinch"), it is my favorite adptation of Dickens' short story and one of the best made-for-TV pieces of animation ever.

I have the book on order. It should be ariving today or tomorrow.
