When I was very little (read: three or four years old), I remember seeing a color Betty Boop cartoon which began with her singing "Boop'a Doop" and then walking into what was either her house or her apartment. The apartment had, I believe, a green talking parrot. That's all I remember of the cartoon (I told you my recollection was vague), but if anybody has any idea what I'm talking about, please give me the name. I know it was probably a television special since Betty Boop's theatrical shorts (except for Poor Cinderella) were never colorized. Unless may be they were eventually redrawn?
Anyway, somebody help me out here please!

The cartoon you may be trying to identify is MAKING FRIENDS. The parrott repeats the refrain from the song, "Go Out and Make Friends With the World." Now isn't this a more direct answer than listing all of the cartoons only to have to weed through them all leaving you right where you were at the start--without the answer?

I found out that the cartoon I was thinking of is, in fact, The Romance Of Betty Boop. I watched some of it on Youtube just now.

I'm sorry you made that discovery. I'm also sure that we do not consider this television "special" to belong in the classic cartoon category since it was such an atrocity. The ironic thing was that Bill Melendez was contracted by Viacom to produce this, and he made the brash statement that the original BETTY BOOP cartoons were not well animated. This is just another of the late Mr. Melendez's bombastic and convoluted statements that he was known to have made during his lifetime, some of which I had been a witness to, knowing that they were not entirely true.

To be frank, I don't even know why this special was made to begin with. Even for an early-1985 cartoon special, it feels horribly dated (ie. more like a 1975 special, particularly with its gritty artstyle). And let's be frank: Betty Boop's whole 1930's flapper personality was out of date already by the mid-40's. To attempt to "resurrect" her for modern times is a disaster waiting to happen. This isn't a knock against her character, mind you. It's a simple fact: Some classic cartoon characters just don't work with modern-day animation. Betty Boop is IMO one of them. Oh, and by the way, that "what a nice girl" admiring the people on the street were doing while Betty was walking into her apartment may very well be one of the lamest things I've ever seen in a cartoon special.
Interestingly, Desiree Goyette voiced Betty Boop in that special. She also sang many of the musical cues in the old Garfield specials of the 80's.

I always assumed the various attempts to resurrect Ms. Boop's film career have stemmed from the enduring popularity of Betty Boop merchandise which began in the 1970's.
I have always found it fascinating that a character that was never heavily merchandised during the time she was actually a box office attraction should have spawned such a wide range of merchandise decades after her cartoons had ceased to be shown in theaters and were not even airing on TV any more.

Well Ray, it seems my factual information that there are Betty Boop redrawns (with a list of the thrown in) was more accurate than your guess about the identity of the cartoon. But your wrong answer was certainly more direct...

Was that response necessary? You really don't need to challenge me in in this area, Ted.

Wait a minute!
I don't remember Vera Vague (http://www.answers.com/topic/vera-vague) being featured in any Betty Boop cartoons!

As you made a point of taking a shot at my response: yes, it was necessary.
But guys, let's not try to get on each others' nerves here...

Can we agree that the question has been answered and bring closure to the thread?

I agree. I now know what I was thinking of. It sucks. Let's end this thread right now before it errupts into something Jon Cooke and Matt Hunter don't want.
