This has always been one of my favorite Daffy Duck cartoons. Daffy's interaction with Porky's dog is funny, the ending is a riot, the musical score is tops, etc. The cartoon is also interesting for two particular reasons.
1. It showed Daffy right in the middle of his "transitional phase" from being manic/crazy to being greedy/scheming. Here, he has a rather dry and deadpan role (well, for him at least). Albeit with just enough attitude to never be dull or boring. Freleng would later flesh out the greedy/scheming Daffy with cartoons like Stork Naked and A Star Is Bored.
2. It's the first non-Jones-directed cartoon to use the more beaky/angular Daffy design. In fact, one could argue this cartoon marked the death of the classic Daffy design since, afterwards, even McKimson finally ditched it in favor of the more conventional Jones-ish Daffy design.
Unfortunately, I can't find a video copy on the internet. So, if anybody has one, please upload it.

That is a great cartoon-funniest part has to be when Porky threatens Rover that if there's any more trouble out of him and he'll put his tail in a pencil sharpener!:DThat and "Rover, there's a dog here to see you-Rrr-Rover!"
The part with the fly is pretty darn funny too!

That and "Rover, there's a dog here to see you-Rrr-Rover!"
I also love that part, but did you notice an obvious continuity error? Rover ran out a completely different window in a completely different room, so one must wonder how he got to the window by Porky's desk. You'd think it would've been too high for him to climb.

As much as I don't care for many Freleng Sam/Speedy/Tweety cartoons from the 50s, I would say his Daffy shorts are criminally underrated.
And yes, Cracked Quack is one of them....
His Bitter Half, The Golden Yeggs, Stork Naked, Wise Quackers, Ain't That Ducky, Along-Came Daffy, Duck Soup to Nuts and Yankee Doodle Daffy are ALL great cartoons for me. You Ought to be in Pics is still Freleng's all time best, but it's not the only Daffy short should be remembered from him.
Btw. how often did Friz use Porky after the mid-40s? The only cartoons that come to my mind are either remakes (Dough for a Do-Do, Slightly Daffy) or cameo appearances (Golden Yeggs, Dumb Patrol). This might be the only time he used Porky "for real" in the post-48 era.

A small correction: Dumb Patrol was directed by Gary Chiniquy. Not Friz Freleng. Chiniquy, however, was part of Freleng's animation unit. So it shouldn't be too surprising that the cartoon would bare more than a passing resemblence to Freleng's work.

Is this the only LT cartoon where we see a main character doing taxes? At any rate, I do like how that aspect tied into the ending.
Anyway, I like this one. The comic timing, per usual by Freleng, is great.

In the beginning of "Deduce You Say?" Daffy is engaged in his favorite pastime-deducting-taxes that is.

In the beginning of "Deduce You Say?" Daffy is engaged in his favorite pastime-deducting-taxes that is. (hits head) I should've known that, especially since I recently re-watched that one, too.

The cartoon can be seen here (http://www.myvideo.de/watch/4296093/Daffy_Duck_Cracked_Quack_1951).
I think the problem with Porky is that after a while, he became a less active character, kinda the same problem Mickey Mouse had at that time, and in some cases like in this cartoon, an interchangeable one, where many of his roles past the late 1940's could've also been used with Elmer Fudd. Daffy's change of persona might've been the key (indirect) cause for Porky's change, especially when he became Daffy's recurring sidekick throughout Jones' 50's cartoons, the exact opposite of where they were during the 40's.
