If I lived there, I would go. It sounds great.

If only we had something like that in my town. :-)

It can be arranged if you really want something like it.

I can be arranged...I've heard of people threatening to re-arrange a persons face but I never thought anyone would offer to be arranged.

Just how does one go about doing that? :D

Well, music can be arranged. You didn't know that I am musical, too, did you? In fact, I'm in a musical now. It's a famous one named after a midwestern state that celebrated its centenniel two years ago. It was a big Broadway hit, was made into a movie in two versions in 1955 and has been revived twice on Broadway in the last 25 years with a resent London production. Get your JEOPARDY thinking caps on!

I hear you were great as Mama Rose in Gypsy. ;)

John Canemaker's book on McCay was a real treat. I didn't know much about McCay's work .. I'd seen Gertie on the big screen some years ago and that was it .. but in reading the book, I'm amazed by McCay's intricate drawing, composition and imagination.

I highly recommend Image Entertainment's McCay DVD

http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-McCay-Master-John-Bunny/dp/B0001UZWNY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1244461472&sr=1-1

for great prints of his animated fims, including the live-action intros, which are more extended than on other collections I had seen previously.

For those also interested in his comic strip art, consider the expensive but truly amazing full-size reprints from Sunday Press:

Actually, it was Al Miller who was the producer of the Winsor McCay collection for Milestone in connection with La Cinemateque Quebecois, who has the films. The films need restoration, however. And while this DVD is taken from the 35mm prints, they can be improved upon, especially since some prints are no better than the 16mm dupes that circulate. While some efforts in restoration have been claimed on this DVD, new techniques have developed that will eliminate splices, remaining abrasions and flaked off emulsion, as well as stablize weaving images.

For those wishing to see these milestone films, the set as it exists is most valuable. But the presentation is not very imaginative in my appraisal, and according to inside information, there was no incentive to do anything more.

I may or may not be attending this event. It is still completely up in the air.

Ray, will there be a screening of some of McCay's work?

Yes, the schedule indicates that there will be a commemoration ceremony, a program presentation by me, and several other guests, including the possible appearance of one of the McCay heirs. Hope you can manage to attend.
