While browsing through my new favourite cartoon blog of the moment, ComiCrazys (http://ComiCrazys.com/), I found John K's notes to his animators (http://comicrazys.com/2009/03/22/boo-boo-runs-wild-notes-to-animators-john-k/) for his Yogi short, Boo Boo Runs Wild (1999). Very interesting stuff. Also included is some production artwork, and the entire cartoon! Not sure if it's the censored version, but I've always been curious to see this. Wouldn't call it a gem, but at least it's interesting.
Aside from that, a big thank you to ComiCrazys for scanning all those Jim Tyer, Milt Gross and R. Crumb comics!

I can't stand John K's personality, but there's good advice in those notes!

Me personally, I can't stand John K. as this guy is two faced and I think "Boo Boo Runs Wild" is a disgrace.

It's interesting that the Yogi Bear model John K. used was the early 1958 model that appeared only in, I believe, six or so of his early cartoons.
I think "Boo Boo Runs Wild" is a disgrace.
I think "Boo Boo Runs Wild" is a masterpiece.
OK, a bit of hyperbole... but it is funny, one of John K's better efforts.
Hate the playa, not the game.
The guy is a lightning rod, but he does know what makes a great cartoon.
But it has been entirely too long since he's made one.

I, too, like this cartoon. It's actually a pretty accurate parody of the classic Yogi Bear shorts of the late-50's. Right down to the somewhat arbitrary use of the Capitol Records stock music.

I think "Boo Boo Runs Wild" is a masterpiece.
Well, compared to "Boo Boo and the Man" it is...

What an incredible waste of talent.
The notes for these cartoons are great. After I looked over them myself, I went to my drawing pad and tried them myself. Some of them do work for me like "No symmertry!" (believe me, I hate drawing a perfect circle then adding placement lines, drawing your facial expressions on that, and then erasing them) and to be uneven as I can without going over the edge. But something like not letting the eyeballs going awry and not to let them out of pupil just doesn't work for me. John K. has some great ideas but they are used for something disgusting like this and many others of him trying to revive H-B.

I recall Steve Worth explaining that Boo boo and the Man was essentially a scene cut from BBRW (I can't recall if it was supposed to have been cut early on and animated separately, or if it was essentially cut when finished; my instinct says more like the first scenario, but that's just a guess).

I recall reading that Ed Benedict hated the special.
I hope John listened to him.

This is not true. I forget the guy's name who runs that blog (he bought a few DVDs from me), but he is definitely not Mr. Kricfalusi.
As for his Hanna-Barbera revivals, I'll pass on commenting, but Ray has a funny story about what Joe Barbera himself thought of the Spumco revivals.

Lol, yeah Thad, Ray shared this with me a couple of weeks ago when I spoke with him and it is funny.

I saw BBRW recently and didn't get it at all. It's all BooBoo's tongue and slobbering. Some bits were disturbing.
The one bit that I laughed at was when Yogi catches Bobo with the girl bear. Yogi points to the girl and shouts, "home wrecker!"
It's too bad. John K knows so much about artistic principles.
He teaches them really well.

Ok... This one is pretty wild.
So much i have admiration to John K. for bring back the spirit of the original Yogi Bear cartoons and to the medium, so much i find hateful this special. Some moments are fun like the change of Ranger Smith design during the cartoon but others like the fight between Smith and Yogi and the unusual slapping ending bothers me.
But still, this revival from Spumco is maybe too overatted for the designs but at least less tiresome than WB's Tom and Jerry Tales.
